TBH if you're 17 and unqualified you wanna be looking at apprenticeships. Deffo your best bet by far. I may be wrong but I honestly get the impression that most employers want you to be 18 anyway these days.

By the time you're my age (24) you'll be absolutely laughing if you do an apprenticeship and get a trade. So much out there. Steer clear of IT cause we're all doing it and the jobs are hard to get but you can take your pick of plumbing, mechanic, plasterer, joiner, electrician etc etc with the apprenticeships.

Go and see your local careers advisor mate and they should be able to help you.

Good luck

Pick something you want to do, find somewhere that does it, see what the pay is like etc. etc. etc. then go and look what the armed forces can offer you with the same job, no doubt whatever you want to do in the real world in terms of trade, the army/air force/ navy ALL have the trades within them. Might be a good idea to give them a blast if you're interested.

Speak to your local college/technical college mate. They often run apprenticeships and have positions going with local firms. Also, try dealerships (such as Ford lol) that do their repair work in house, they often take on young lads as apprentices I think.

To be honest mate think about what u wanna do,im (20) a joiner and it suits me fine but we just had an apprentice who started cus his dad, brother etc told him its what he wanted todo but two weeks later he quit cus he didnt like it...and it never was what he wanted todo!

Building trade is startin to pick up now as its been a slow year so far,so lookin now may be a good idea! But apprenticeships fill up fast ring up companys and ask them for a job and be keen,as if u just let the college do all the leg work it wont show ur interest to the prospective employer!

Get a trade matey, a lot of people up here who I know regret going into Sixth Form and business courses n that,
You wont find many Joiners or Plumbers outta work Luke, and we charge a fookin fortune .
Fair enough first two yrs pay aint great but which good jobs pay well from day one
Your basic Joiners pay up North is Ł22,000 per year and they are the worst paid , Lad I know who has just left is lifting Ł710 a week now.
Do a tradesmans course Luke
Oh and they say the world is gonna be run by computers shortly eh, well I would like to see one of the fuckers hang a door or put a combi boiler in or summit
