Rover 3.5 V8 Engine... How Much Power...
The Rover 3.5 V8 Engine, does anyone know how much power they produce as standard?
Been offered one fairly cheap, I would obviously re-condition it, not looking to modify it though, just drop it into my new Project.

190 isnt a bad figure for the price of the engine, sure I could mod that to over 200bhp.
Was only looking for a realiable 250ish.
Looking for 250ish but want to stay N/A

I bought my 89k mile 5litre Ford V8 (302 windsor) from the UK for 350quid delivered.
Off to Devon tomorrow to pick up a 351 Windsor (5.7) tomorrow morning, forged pistons too, 20quid, happy days
Pretty sure DannyB can sort you out with a fully rebuilt 5litre V8 for about a grand tho (think less, ask him)

Earlier ones were 155-160bhp. Even some of the later 4litre versions like in 90s landrovers etc are only 190bhp.
Tunability its totally wank compared to Ford Windsor V8s too.

"ignore power and notice torque because torque makes you fast and power just makes you talk"
a short quote from Mr.Edlebrock himslef
rover V8 is a buick V8.......
look at american classic/performance mags for prices and power outputs.
i could buy a full rebuild kit for a yank V8 including new crankshaft and pistons for $495, thats cheaper than a set of cossie pistons from an unknown manufacturer
americana V8 rules

See, they should listen to Mr Edlebrock, if theydve built a well designed but almost standard engine of that capacity theydve produced more torque than that, tho maybe only 160bhp, and of course, theydve been faster
Torque is nice, esp if your gearing makes it hard to stay in the powerband, but all that torque talk people say is bollocks

Regardles of weight, as long as the gearing is right so the car dont drop out the powerband on every gearchange, the car with 800bhp but only 200lbft of torque will piss on the car with 250lbft of torque but only 200bhp, be it F1 car or Yank Tank.
This torque wins races bollocks is just stuff said by people who like to quote americans without knowing what they saying, and for XR4x4 owners to say just before they run another 16sec quarter
Torque is BRILLIANT, thats why I love big boost turbo cars and have no interest in high revving n/a engines, makes cars so nice to drive.
But for people to say that torque is what matters to win a race and power is just a number for showing off that means fuck all, just shows what gullible chumps they are.

i'd rather have a torquey car on a windy country lane instead of a big bhp at high revs car. go off boost or in the wrong gear for a corner or sommat and your fooked
You dont need torque or bhp to win races. You need driving skill except drag racing because any mug can do that

dont need torque tho, you just need the correct gearing and enough skill not to miss or choose the wrong gears.
what your describing is a car with a wide powerband than just a torquey one anyhow.
torque makes driving a lot easier, but as long as the gearing is suited to the engine (same goes for the torquey motor) the one with plenty more power but less torque will win if all else is equal.
and summat tells me power and torque makes a lot of difference in racing, if it dont and you can win in a car with far less performance than the others then your obv racing in a series far too easy for you!

I bought everything to rebuild a 350 chevy motor for £225/$380
I've got a customer with a complete 5.0GT engine from a Mustang with T5 gearbox for £800
don't bother with the rover, it's too expensive to get decent power from.
LS1 chevy is as light, but cost a load more

I picked up an efi 3.5 rv8 a few weeks ago complete with loom, ecu and afm for £78.
I was reading on a v8 forum the other day about a bloke with a supercharged 3.8 (modded 3.5) running silly high compression ratio on LPG. Think it made something like 420hp.
