Default XR2i ... options?

I've got one coming in shortly, gonna stand me at very little, done 120k, in black, *but* the previous owner's offered to go halves on whatever I decide to do with it... (track car basically)...

What's the options engine-wise guys? I've absolutely no ideas with these cars. I dimly remember something about a 2L Mondeo engine being easy enough, but I could be wrong :/

It's gotta be pretty easy, as I have a massive history of starting things, then getting bored really quickly. I can see it happening.

An XR2i, your best bet for ease has to be the CVH Turbo from the Fiesta Turbo. If you use OFAC managment, you only need to cut one wire and you can use the original loom, if you use OFAB, you cut the same wire, and swap 2 pins in the ECU around. All you'd need is a bottom end (heads/inlet/injectors are the same) an ERST manifold and a T3. Change your in tank fuel pump to a small turbo Escos one, get some BMW 535i injectors from the scrappys, and a chip from the likes of MSD/Jamsport etc etc and you've got an easy 200+ bhp.

Also a zetec fits easily into the bay, if you use all the 1800 zetec fiesta Xr2i/RS1800 ancillaries suck as sump, downpipes and manifolds etc. And alternator brackets. Wire up £200's worth or megasquirt managment and you've got a 150bhp car

IIRC, the technical archives section on Fiestaturbo.com has how-to guides on both conversions. Just ignore all the idiots who tell you to put 18's on your fiesta cos it'll help the handling
