Hello,


I need a good thorough piece of diagnostic software. Ideally something that will test every aspect of a computer system and report any faults. Not really fussed about a benchmark score so to speak.

In a nutshell, I'm taking delivery of a PC tonight that appears to have a BSOD (Windows XP), now, I'm pretty sure I can get this resolved, but, Ideally I want to know if everything is working as it should.

I think it could possibly be a heat related issue, but myself and the pilot are not entirely convinced.

Loads of stuff available from Sysinternals for monitoring whats happening with the file system, performance etc.

If the board has temperature sensors you can get software for this too.

Other than that, eventviewer is fairly good at telling you the system is fucked. it will tell you what failed when it blue screened.

in my years of experience ive never found any diag software that is truely anygood at all.. even expensive software memory diags wont find faults when you know their fucked.. only diags any good are proper hardware ones that cost megabucks

try slowing the memory down instead of having it set to auto.. i sorted a crashing pc by doing that.. cheap shite memory that doesnt run at the spec their supposed to

ditto what andy said, ive never found anything decent hardware based, you want those testrigs they use in 2nd hand PC shops and the like really...

we used to take our stuff to computer exchange and pretend we wanted to sell it, theyd test it, then we'd say "nnah, i dont wanna sell it now"
