most people (inc me when i had one) take the whole rear beam off a 4x4.

then you get the LSD and the rear disc brakes (XR4i has drums)

it's a very simple swap, it all bolts up

How many of them have ever tried?

99% of people who talk about welded diffs are just like 99% of people who talk about anything on the next, theyve never tried and have no fucking idea

Only time you will notice it in normal driving is under about 15mph doing tight turns to park as it judders a little bit.

At speed its fine/unnoticable, and even at 130+
Happy to have a daily driver with one.

Every time I drive a RWD car without one now it feels a bit ghey, you get used to having one.

All its doing it make both wheels turn at same speed at the time, nothing bad, its the tits if you want some fun

I've got a 4i that I welded the std diff up on and it works very well for an afternoon mod

After a while I busting the casing on the std diff. Then I fitted a std 4x4 lsd and beam and it was absolute shit to play in - in comparison to before so I welded that up now wouldn't have it any other way in a play car.

the 4i driveshafts are different to 4x4 so you have to swap the whole beam over to get the discs.

you can feel a little understeer on bends but not enough to worry about.

cheers

Easy way to sort understeer is give it some more front negative camber, makes a world of difference.

My SX with the welder oversteers on or off the throttle with little provocation bacuse of that, happy days.

But yeah, cars with a welder and no front neg ive drove understeer easier than standard if you not trying, but when you are they the tits still, lol

I'm not too worried about the understeer tbh if it starts I give it some left foot braking

I'm gonna do summit about the steering rack so i'll have a look at the camber later

I've welded a half cage in and some bars in to make the shell stiffer, I might run them through the bulkhead to the suspension tops at some point.

the only thing is the engine is dying it's a v5ish at the moment and you can hear the rod knocking away at idle

Dan@Rapid-Ford
Im starting to think about a 4i now , I was going to go for another 2.8i capri as aplay car but you cant pick them up for pennies anymore. The xr4i's aren't to bad at the mo.
Do the 4i's sit out as well as the capri's?

I'm not sure TBH, I think the Capri would be better with the leaf springs and being lighter at the rear.

a 4i WILL NOT be fun with a std diff they drive in circles very quickly lifting and spinning 1 wheel.

mine is a little underpowered as the engine is dying but its easy to get bits for if you break it - and there are few different engines that go straight in if necessary.

cheers

I've had a 24v Granade cossie and was an absolute arse to get it to go sideways then the fucker changes gear or you kick down and fishtail down the road bumping of kerbs trying not to lift off

suppose engine would be okay in the 4i but for the time and effort of swapping it over I would like it to do over 140mph.

cheers

STEVE, i got a fitted 24v conversion in mine for 400quid. (remember when my engine went pop recently?)

i know people who've MADE money from doing the conversion (buy granada for engine, then break it)

And id PREFER a Saff, but I know they jus not as good for the money spent.

Yep, Total Vauxhall mag have one as a drift car with a welded diff etc.

Some have LSD's, but better off getting one without and welding it up!

What you REALLY want is a ex-pig MV6 like this one...
