And he's not a striker that can play up front on his own, Crouch to a degree is. At the end of the day, England do not and will not have the ability the play 4 5 1 with those players. 4 4 2 is what they know. I'm not the biggest advocate of Rooney but I don't think he's just an average player. He's not 100% though and probably shouldn't have gone. Nor should Owen but we can go round in circles with this all night. What might have been etc.
