Not used an Ion, but I've had few bits of Alesis gear, and it's been pretty good as a rule, had a look at it, looks like a friendly enough bit of kit, sounds capable enough!
Grab an MC-303 as well.. They're under a hundred quid, and I'd forgotten how cool these things are Instant dance weirdness There's probably some Mp3's around the net of them...
