Default Any Carpet fitters on here??? Need advice.....

What can be done with a damaged bit of carpet in the middle of a floor???

I remember seeing once on the tele somebody cut out around the damaged part, removed it and then replaced it with a piece of offcut the same. seem to remember something about the technique that you layed one on top of the other and cut through both, this ensured they were identical shapes..........

Is this true in reality??? and advice????

utter rubbish, if the damage is in the middle of the carpet you can not replicate the wear on the pile etc

Wont really work mate, you can pop a bit in but it will stand out like a sore thumb. As Rob said you would be putting a new bit of carpet on an old bit the wear is not the same.

Heesian or felt back.

If brand new, patternless and a decent depth pile then get some decent heat seem tape, heat seem a new peice in (hessian) and then try and mix the pile in.

Never going to be mint, but for gauld sake get the pile going the same direction.

If you had been in Coventry, I could have got you discount on a new carpet.

To behonest I forsee a new carpet going down very soon

Trust me m8 you will never be able to hide it
but it all depends on the type of carpet,
i patched one up this week for an old dear she had an 80/20 nice bit of light green and spilt beetroot .
i just cut a small circle out.
Repair looks mint but its still a repair, you can still see it
She's pleased but i could not stick looking at it in me own house

Thats exactly what they've now got.........well not a Ford one, but one of those Road ones so they can drive their cars on it

Thanks to all who replied . To answer some of your questions, the carpet is hessian backed plain blue.

But we kind of fugured there was no way to ever repair it so the rug will just cover it............besides, we know our kids will trash it eventually anyway...........

Thanks again to all
