Just a quickie, are the small turbo escort cosworth coil packs the same as are fitted to the RS2000, or zetec engines etc? I take it as most cars use fords EEC IV that they are interchangeable?

No, the Small Turbo Es Cos coil packs are fitted within the cam cover...............IMO this is not a good place to install them, because it is very hot in there. The ONLY reliability problems I had with my Ash Black small turbo Es Cos was coil pack failures (both coil packs).

is it a bit of a known problem then? I was looking at buying a car yesterday, it ran fine all of the test drive, then just started misfiring and running rough as it was sat running at idle on the guys drive. It was chucking out black sooty smoke, which to me says its an ignition misfire not a fuel problem. I recon it was a coil pack as one of the connections was covered in silicon sealent, and was a bit loose. Shame really, as it was a cracking car otherwise, but I don't want to buy a bag of trouble, so I was going to stick a coil pack on and see what difference it made. it was raining as well, so it might have just been a bit of water ingress somwhere, but all the multiplugs etc have been waterproofed and wrapped up
