I got a tom tom on monday and was same as you , couldn't get gps in my house. Soon as i drove it down the road though picked up 8 sattelites. Was ready to boot it down the garden aswell

sometimes they don't pick up if you are too near buildings
london is a bastard to get a clear signal in because the buildings are so close together
but at you sitting in your front room trying to get it to work
it needs to see the sky before it'll do anything mate and sometimes it needs to be stationary in order to pick up the signal, thats why you sometimes lose it when you are tanking it along and it won't come back
