Indeed, Villeneuve one is horrific but seeing the pictures of Ratzenberger and Senna lying lifeless is so sad, as they all are, but just more so for some reason.....

You forget how dangerous it used to be and how many lost their lives doing it

The ones on fire hit home the most especially with that chap trying his best to turn it over, how brave was he. All in all though thats a very depressing bit of footage

I only respected Schumacher from 1998 till Monaco this year. He cheated before then ramming Hill and Schumacher off for no reason other than to win. And parking his car across the track in Monaco was a joke.
Flawed talent.

Laughing in 94 means zero respect to me from start to present. 2 drivers killed, one of them the greatest ever IMO and strange how this wasn't shown, remember watching it and it didn't show this.

The Tom Pryce , always makes me feel sick.

The marshalls thrown up like a rag doll.

Something to think about when people complain about Spa being taken off for saftey imporvements etc etc

At the end of lap 21 of the Grand Prix at Kyalami, South Africa, on March 5, 1977, Renzo Zorzi retired his Shadow with a split fuel pipe which had caused a small, but harmless fire. Zorzi's car was parked in a blind brow but two marshalls stationed on the opposite side of the track decided to cross to tackle the fire. At that moment, cars driven by Pryce and Hans-Joachim Stuck suddenly appeared, nearly side-by-side. Stuck's car passed behind the first marshall and ahead of the second marshall, 19 year old Jansen Van Vuuren. Pryce however could not avoid Van Vuuren, hitting him at high speed and killing the marshall instantly. The impact seemed to have only minimum influence on Pryce's car, only slightly damaging its front wing. However, the fire extinguisher Van Vuuren was carrying struck Pryce on the head, killing Pryce instantly. Pryce's car continued down the straight track, gradually slowing down and verging to the right. Jacques Laffite, who was unsure what was going on, moved alongside as the two cars approached Crowthorne, at that point Pryce's car skidded off the barriers, back on the track again, where it hit Laffite's Ligier, taking Laffite out of the race but not injuring him.

As to Van Vuuren, the injuries to his body were extremely severe. His body was split in half and dismembered. It was identified only by exclusion, after the race director gathered all of his colleagues.

(The Impact was so severe it ripped Pryce's helmet off)

the Roland Ratzenberger one is the worst for me, but if you can take any positives from it, its that since the senna crash, the safety aspect of the cars now is amazing, there have been a few big crashes in recent years, and most of the time the drivers walk away, but you have to take into account how quick f1 cars are, there is always going to be a big chance of serious injury, R.I.P to all in the video.

The guys name was David Purley, sadly died in a plane crash in 1986 i think.

I got a picture somewhere that sums the whole incident up.
I believe he received the George Cross (or Victoria Cross) for trying to help Roger Williamson from his striken car...

He was also subject to a G loading of 179 during a crash in his LEC at, I think Silverstone. A real boys own charachter

m schumacher kicked arse in 1994, fia did averything they could to rob him of it (the championship)

he won 8 races. which should have been 9 ( disq from belguim for tech infringe) disq from 2nd place in britain, banned from even taking place in two races. so out of that 8 wins from 12 races compared to hills 6 from 16. 2 of which m schumacher wasnt even in the race. also gifted hill the panish win when the benneton got stuck in 5th gear

the guy is ace

If you read the article about the fire it's quite shocking and funny how Lauda came out with such a comment and later burned himself

very sad, yet it shows that even in maybe the best car car, in terms of safety, you can die.

and some of us in our 20 year old fords think were invincable!

I have the coverage of the race on DVD, all of the drivers didn't know at the end of the race that Senna had died i seem to remember, hence Schumy's celebration. In the books ive read i saw that Sennas death hit all the drivers very hard, especailly Schumy.

I remember watching that race with my dad when i was 8, Senna was my hero who i thought was invicable (as you do at that age), it shocked me severly.

On the brightside as Fiddy UK said safety has improved so much since then, 12 years ago it seems like yesterday

R.I.P. to all of them and anyone else whos lost thier life in motorsport doing what they love.

Heres a post i made a few years back about Senna - hope you all enjoy: https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...asc&highlight=

They did know, look at the footage from the Williams pit, namely Patrick Head crying minutes after the crash, IMO because he caused it. Even though, he knew Ratzenberg had died and a bit of respect was due

The drivers never new of senna's death until after the race, willi webber told schumacher the news and he "quote" "cryed like a baby".

Ayrton was still alive, albeit it critical, when he was flown from the circuit, i think i read somewhere he was pronounced dead at 5 something european time. (someone correct me if im wrong there).

Theres some pretty graphic pics of the aftermath of sennas crash showing he was well dead

The BBC never got the footage the german channel had from the helecopter while they where working on Senna. BLood everywhere. Murray walker I beleive could see these and from the tone of his voice you knew it was bad.

The only thing I didnt like after the deaths of senna and ratzenberger where the kneejerk reactions in circuit saftey.

They totally destroyed imola with shitty chicaines and went on to do the same with other tracks.

The last drive to be killed before Senna and Roland was Gilles Villenueve - 12 years before. So why after those 12 years they had to make "major" safety improovements ill never know!

If you watched it on the bbc footage you wont see any of the aftermath, but on sky's coverage it clearly shows ayrton moving his head after the car has come to rest after his accident.

Its thought that part of the front suspension pierced his helmet and then his skull which is where most of the blood came from, had this not happended, maybe he would have survived?

Officially he died from massive head injuries.

Ive got the Eurosport coverage too and it shows Senna moving his head - although i persoannly believe its more muscle twitching than moving out of choice

Never knew Roland Ratzenberger was due to mary Davina McColl either He was a big hit in the BTCC and ETCC before he hit the F1 scene. Im sure alot of people will have seen him in his M3's in the 1980's videos the RS500's featured in.
