Escort Diesel Question!
I Have a 1992 (K) diesel escort van (Non Turbo)
1) Is it possible that I have a non diesel gearbox fitted?
2) what top speed should I expect? As I cant get anymore than 75 out of it... even down a hill
Help would be great!
Many Thanks
Adam

If it's an ex company van it might be resticted or have a petrol box fitted (with a lower diff) check your getting full throttle with the peddle to the floor, my Mk4 diesel does 90 (just, on the flat)

Diesel boxes are longer than petrol, so the only way youd be losing top end is if your hitting the rev limit (well, valve bounce) in 5th, and youd know about that.
On a mildly related note, on a VERY long downhill run i managed to see 140 on the clock of my standard 1.8 mondeo shiiter earlier
Onto the M4 steep downhill to 130, kept foot in up the hill and only slowed to 125 or so, then downhill to 130odd, then a straight bit where it kept its speed, then a long downhill bit where somehow it got to 140 even if i did need to use some of the 50mph limit bit to do that speed
