How do you push the pistons back in a 4 pot caliper?

Default How do you push the pistons back in a 4 pot caliper?

As title, as when I come to change the pads I wondered whats the best way to push the pistons back when you have 4 I've only done it with my old standand 1 pot caliper and I used a G Clamp and some wood

my caliper

I normally do them one side of the caliper at a time. Take the cap off the fluid reservoir and put something between the disc and the old pad (something that won't damage the disc) and lever that side back, then pop the new pad in. Then do the same with the other side of the caliper.

It's not that hard, but when you try and do it one pistons at a time, you will probably find that as you push one piston in, another will come out!

Oh, also, make sure that you do it one side at a time and leave the other pad in, incase the piston on the other side decides to pop out!!

There is a special tool available which is like a threaded bar with two legs comming off it. the legs fit inbetween the 2 pads which are still in place in the callipers. You then wind the thread which screws the levers outwards againest the friction surface of the pad which inturn forces back the pistons!

I just unscrew the bleed nipples and push them back with my fingers.

When changing pads I change the fluid as well
