it will put it into purely mechanical fueling, basically tuening it into K-Jetronic rther than ke-jetronic.
i wouldnt want to rag the arse off it with it unplugged, but its fine to disconnecta dn go for a drive to see if it makes a difference.
if it fixed it your problem is electrical
if it doesnt your problem is mechanical.
i'm deffo thinking airleak (bd one) or fooked metering head. is the dump valve a proper twinpston jobby? get it off now and block the hole up see if that make sa difference.
as for adjusting fuel pressure, MFi works on pressure differentials, its not the same as EFi where yuo tweak a screw and the pressure at the injectors goes up/down.
you have CONSTANT fuel supply to the injectors (theyre always on) and you increase/decrease fueling by increasing/decreasing the pressure of the fuel delivered to them. you get the base fuel pressure into the metering head (about 5bar i think) and theres a kinda gate/slot that opens up more as the flap in the metering head goes down which lets more fuel through to the injectors.
air hits flap - flap moves - slot opens up more - more fuel gets through

if it went to trem, theyre good so i hear so they likely did all the simple tests we can sugest and pointed the finger at the metering head.
you really just wanna replace it with a known good one, the fuel distributors on them are not easily serviceable
