I'm sure there is a simpler way but I just save it as BMP and then open it in Paintbrush and re-save it as JPEG then delete the BMP file

If you don't do regular 'Disk Cleanup' and empty Temp Files & Temp Internet files etc etc - jpg images will start to save as bmp.

Most pics, when being saved from a website, are in jpeg form already so that will be the defualt setting. Usually you can also select file type when saving (right click the pic, select save as, the under the file name box there is a drop window for file type)

Some pics tho, only let you save as the filetype is. So if the pic is a BMP, it might only let you save as a BMP. Likewise with GIF images.....

If I get a pic that will only save as a Bitmap, I just save it, open in paint and re-save as jpeg as said

As per Redkop. Internet cache is full. Empty that and they will start saving as jpg's again.

How comes when I try to empty the cache (TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > DELETE FILES) it sits with egg time for ages then says not responding and won't close without using task manager?

Where do I find the files to manually delete em?

It takes ages as you have a big (and full) cache. Let it run and clear things out.

It stops running Adrian. Just goes to not responding

Anyway to clear it manually - I remember when I had Win98 I could do it from a folder?

Emptying the cache doesn't always fix it. When it doesn't fix it you need to move your My Documents folder. This is how I have had to sort mine twice.

Google it cause there's a few pages about it

Start > Programmes > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

I always tick every box including compress old files. Also, you'll find clearing everything makes your PC work faster too

Edited.... Redkop using Andy's PC
