BBQ's - gas or classic?

BBQ's - gas or classic?
Whats your choice?
Stems from a "discussion" I was having with my bro about what BBQ to buy. He decided to buy one for his new gaff, and got a gas one, with the argument for it being "no cleaning (comparred to coal) and it's hotter quicker, and can be turned on and off anytime you want"
Which is all good, but I personally feel the old charcoal is best as it simply makes the food taste better IMO. Gass BBQ's are basically just grilles - you cook the food using flames, rather than the typical "smoking" of food as you would with a hot coal BBQ.... Plus I get round the cleaning by buying the disposable BBQ's Two of them are plenty, light em, cook on em, chuck em away
What would you guys say?

Me and my old man made one (well, stole the design from B&Q PMSL)
Big cylinder on it's side, with a mesh plate to put the food on, and a seperate charcoal fire to the right in another chamber... chimney at the opposite end so it draws the heat across the cooking chamber. Piss easy to make as well, just a couple of 20 gallon drums and a bit of steel tube.
It's fucking fantastic None of the 'burnt on the outside, raw on the inside, with that elusive taste of lighter fluid', but still a bit 'outdoorsy-charcoal-ey'. Bootiful!

Have only ever used coal bbq's other than using the Frogs at shows, if we are going on taste i wouldnt there is that much difference you can still get the burnt effect on both but def have much more fun getting the coal ones going armed with a bottle of lighter fluid
