Yeah will need moving.. my mum was going to have her cooker moved to the other side of the kitchen but the electrician said no chance because of the plug sockets above the space

it abit dangorous due to the heat and condensation, and the fact you may be tempted to use the socket whilst something is cooking ideally you want to completly removed the socket. Do the cables go upwards, if they do you should be able to dig them out the wall above the cupboards or hod extractor, and put the ends in a 30a JB. Must say tho unless you are part P qualified your not suppose to do any electrical work in the kitchen.

you may also want to put the ends in a surface patress with a fused spur in to feed your hod extractor if you are fitting one and do not have a power point for it yet. any questions just ask.

To be honest i just want to remove the plug, fill in the hole and skim?over it as it is being tiled over.Just want to know what to do with the wires.;i.eCut them and tape up the wires, push them in the hole and skim over.I know this sounds shit ,but do i have to put thhe wires in some sort of block so the wall doesn,t become live.

What part of BS 7671 actually says thats illegal and not just bad practice? May be illegal in your gas regs tho

We have come across sockets directly above kitchen sinks and until recently put it as a major fault on a periodic inspection, we asked NICEIC what code we should use for it when they came for the yearly visit and they informed us there was nothing in the regs that says you cannot put a socket above a kitchen sink

you can't really just cover the wires up as there is no way of anyone knowing they are there in the future. You need to makesure the cables are still conneted tho so you don't brake the ring, quessing they are on a ring tho. If its a block wall, take the socket off, see if the cables go up, they should. Go above your cupboard and chase abit off the wall out, find the cables, you may be able to pull them up, if not cut them off and join them here, its not ideal but much safer and they may come in useful. Remember to turn any power off tho and makesure you get the correct ones.

TBH i would say the distance was quite far so some large connetcors (30a) screwed nice and tight in there and a 2g blank plate on top would be safe. You can't really tile over it as it has to be accessible and if it was tiles over there would be no way of knowing it was there in the future. If there is a unit aboe the cooker you dont have to chased it all the way up you can just chase a small section above the wall unit out.
