Anyone else on NTL had enough of the crappy internet?

I'm getting really annoyed. It seems to be most nights now. It either goes completely or it goes intermittently. Or even worse it half works but won't display pages properly.
Instead of promising faster speeds, maybe they should just make sure it actually bloody works first!!
Anybody else at the end of their tether with it? Their customer service is non existant neither, and they've been charging us for an extra box since November. We don't have an extra set top box! They said the money wrongly taken would be creditted to our account but this month, lo and behold, the bill comes through with no credit showing
I believe they do this stuff deliberately as they know anybody who has phoned them, will never want to do so again.
Rant over!

no problems here either, know what you mean about the customer service though, guy who came to fit the cable didn't give me the installation disk and it took me tons of phonecalls to sort that out!

the qulity of service NTL offer is VERY VERY good. and it does rarely go wrong.
i'm on their 10meg service, and the ONLY reason i'd leave them is because their customer service is APPAULING

I have problems if I am downloading continuneously, I find my connection just dies and the only way to restore is to power off and on the modem (this happens when they change my IP address too).
Other than that its ok (but the upstream is crap)

No problems with NTL for me, been with them for near 7 years now. You can check the server status on the site which shows planned outtages etc..

agree with EBR that upstream is shite, but it's the technology that limits it, you're pushing 512k per user through a data channel designed to handle remote control keypresses for pay-perview TV ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
they've not done bandy imho, you used to get 128k max

For the last month or so my NTL connection has been going down like a lesbian on heat.
I changed from a usb2 connection to ethernet to see if that cured it. It sped my connection up by nearly double, but it still keeps dropping all the time.

Yes, I just can't access any pages. The progress bar thingy goes across slowly and either nothing happens or I eventually get a "page not found" or whichever message it is.

This is likely DNS issues. I would also run a full spyware scan, www.lavasoft.com or if you have genuine windows xp, microsoft have antispyware you can download.

Been with NTL for nearing 6 years now - had broadband 4 years now, was never a problem until the past couple of months - cuts out intermitantely each time we use the net
Same happens with my mate down the road too so not just my PC.
Weird thing is Norton Anti-virus has also got something to do with the problems, sometimes if the net connection cuts out and i disable Norton, the net works fine again for a while until it cuts again
Up until now i thought they might have been capping our connections due to downloading etc but now that i see more people have the same problem it must be thier shit service. I don't understand how it was fine before and now gone tits up

I meant in relation to when a problem occurs how its fixed. Its not as simple as flicking something on and off. I think you would be surprised at just how poor most providers actually are.

NTL cut my broadband off last year twice in 2 weeks without prior warning for an Alledged outstanding payment, which wasn't outstanding.
Customer services couldn't sort ot out.
I changed to SKY and Bulldog, and saved money for a better connection and more channels.
It took me nearly 6 months to get rid of NTL but I "Think" I've finally managed it.
And yes Bulldog C/services are a bit slow but nowhere near as bad as NTL.

Im not sticking up for NTL in particular, just trying to educate a few on to why any company can have failures. As an example iirc ntl has a contention ratio of 20:1 versus BT's 50:1.
Also DNS failures can come through Routers and not the service provider.

im with tony on this one, the QOS with NTL (and all the cable networks to be honest) is FAR higher than with DSL. problems get fixed a LOT faster too.
technically, they really do rank up there at the top... it's just a shame that their customer service is so dreadful.
also most problems with NTL are regarding cache servers, none of the otehr isps experience this problem, because they DONT HAVE cache servers. (ps cache servers are a GOOD thing)
if a cache server fails it will failover to another within 5 minutes. VERY OCCASIONALLY this doesnt happen and the service is down until someone can fix it. this is usually rectified very quickly.
its also very very very very easy to fix yourself, you just point your PC at a cache server thats working until they fix your local one
