Milage discrepencey-what do you think
Ok then peeps, need some advice
I was going to go and look at a Series 1 tomorrow that seemed all good, but once i HPi'd it i found this...
1, The guy says it is a "3 owners from new"......HPi says 6
2, This is the one...
It came back with "There is a milage descrepency"
So i look at it and it changed hands on 06/09/2003 and the milage read 128,000
THEN 18/09/2003 the milage was 100,000
The guy is advertising it as 86,000??????????
On the HPi it says" Warning-Mileage data is supplied by thrid partys and may not be accurate"
What you think...................?

I'd say if it originally read more once, it's probably true, twice, even more to say it's probably true...maybe ask the guy about it...see what he says...he might have been sold it at 80,000 and run up the 6 himself, so to him it is 86?
Possibly not the best start, eh.

I wonder if the guy has ALL the MOT's.....i bet the ones in question are missing
To be fair though, the guy bought it 2 years ago so probably never picked up on it

TBH i bet half the RST's out there have been milage "adjusted".
I KNOW my old RST hadnt because i had every MOT from its very 1st one in 1992 right up to 2006 and all the orginal ford service history stamps with milage and the milage increase says roughly even each year, it was MOT'ed and again 6 months later when it was service

I wasnt too worried at the time of buying it 6 yrs ago because i was buying it for the car i could see infront of me, not how many miles it had done and history etc. With a S2 RST If its a solid car, engine solid and reasonably price then IMO thats fine i wouldnt be too bothered, but the trouble is with S1's there a bit more collectable and will hold money better if they are full history etc so yeah you NEED full MOT history and service history if possible.

£2200-£2500 would be my guess, unless its modified and got some tasty goodies on it, then £2800-£3200 if its proper mint*

If you have mot and/or service history which proves the miles are correct you'll be ok, you can apply to the HPI to have the descrepency removed. They need proof though.
I think they get the data from MOT's and when the owners are changed (you have the option of declaring the mileage). Its difficult to proove but the MOT station may have made a mistake when putting the miles down. I've seen this happen before, or as said before maybe he changed the clocks from some failure.
Check out the overall condition is the best bet, you can soon tell teh approximate mileage from the usual checks.

Well someones data must be wrong wether it be his HPI report or the new version......, he probably doesn't even know there are any errors.
You can request from DVLA all previous owners i think for £5, that would probably prove the owners !

Even if it has been clocked, that's not the end of the world imo.
If the condition of the car is spot on it wouldn't worry me too much but I'd certainly use the HPI report to bid him down a fair whack.
