Although the hpi says 6 owners, the 3 owners the current owner claims might be for 3 private owners. The other 3 could be dealers/garages that have taxed it for the new owner and had to put it in their name.

I wouldnt worry too much about the mileage on the S1's. S1's should be judged on overall condition and not mileage in my opinion. Although a good proper history is always a good thing with them. Its not as though your looking at top money anyway at around the Ł3500 mark.

It might be perfectly innocent so I wouldnt totally dismiss it. First thing is to judge the car whats in front of you putting the mileage and history aside for a moment. Once your happy, then the mileage and history could be an added bonus.

Mine had 101k, and was better than all the ones I looked at ranging from Ł2500 to Ł5500. The Ł5500 one had 55k and was no where near as good as mine that I paid Ł3000 for. I sold it way to cheap too at Ł3200 (the asking price) the day it went up for sale. Could of got well over Ł4k for it looking back but just needed it out of the garage to make way for the cosworth.

If the condition of the car is spot on it wouldn't worry me too much but I'd certainly use the HPI report to bid him down a fair whack.
The thing is regarding the mileage, think of the engine servicing. How do you know when it was ACTUALLY carried out? You don't. Even tho you would prob change oil and cambelt as part of buying the car, you can't judge the condition of any mechanical parts based on mileage as you don't know what it is. This in itself would reduce the asking price.

(rough example: say "X" was changed at a true 50k. The car says 80k so it's had 30k use. You don't know what the true mileage is so it could have had 60k use..but at 40k it needed "y" checking/changing. You think it's got another 10k use before that, but it is actually 20k over-use)

Without any history or knowing the car (via a friend) then you have to assume it needs major servicing work. Bodywork you can physically see, mechanically you have not a lot to go on.

Keep looking Tiff. One will turn up..and as I said, you will know when it is the right car for you
