Default E30 project is going good :D

Check out the latest update for week 4 of the project - so much progress, and so little time.

I can't wait untill I have a couple of weeks off work in 3 weeks time

can do a lot when you hae a good bit of time to spend on your car, you just need to get stuck in each day.

manflu is a virus, you cannot get it from being cold/in the wet.

stop making excuses and get on with it.

Cheers Rich - lets just hope the progress doesn't tail off I want it finished in about 5 or 6 weeks time

Also, due to nearly reaching my 10 gig bandwidth limit on the server i've reduced the pictures to over half the size of the ones on there (filesize, with a small drop in physical size) - should be a lot nicer for any 56k users out there too

suspect man - you'll get a 404 error on any links in the build diary that are dated ahead of the latest one not done that week yet

Stu - its coming together rather niceley, just spent a further 2 hours in the garage this morning doing the following:

trial fitting the engine - oh its going to be messy, but the 2wd sump fits nice and easy into the space available

Need to bin the standard brake servo and fit aftermarket stuff - this is to keep the engine towards the rear of the bay, then fit the anti-roll bar to the front of the cross member (M3 rollbar and links so not a problem there).

the engine is going to be about 10mm off the bulkhead - keeping the center of gravity low and towards the middle of the car, keeping that weight balance nice too - the engine being so far back also means that there will only be about 10" of it forward of center of the front hubs - thus making for an excellent handelling car

Other problem is the exhaust downpipe - that will have to be thought about once the E36 rack is in place (should be here tomorrow that) and the engine permanantly fitted too. I may have to skim 1-2cm off the cross member where the sump sits, and plate that area to keep the strength, but apart from that, this project is rocking along niceley

Jay - I appreciate the offer of help chap, But i like to get on with things on my own, I get far too stressed if someone is watching me work or asking questions - as i'm sure a lot of other people do on here

Through a red light at 60 mph in a Mini Clubman, hit a Sierra, impact pushed engine back through the bulkhead and was touching the seat. Er, need I say more?

Bloody hell Simon!

Glad to hear it was only a broken leg in that case. Sounds like it could have been much worse.
