Default Alternator adjusting bracket??? Ford Experts please.....

Im making some changes to my engine, one of which is replacing the alternator with a smaller one.

However, the adjuster bracket that mounts to the engine is too shallow an angle to align with the alternator mounting hole without hitting the alternator body so before I look at getting it cut and welded I thought i'd ask in case there's a better shaped one from another ford........

Mine is a Cossie 4x4 engine, But i obviously cant be sure its actually a Cossie bracket.

Cheers

most 4x4 cosys use a self tensioner for the belt and the alternator just fixes in a bracket with adjustment

never seen a 4x4 with adjustable alternator

does it run twin belts?

I think you've misread my post. The Adjuster bracket is a flat metal bar with a bolt hole at one end and the end end has about a 2" slot which you slide the alternator up and down the slot to tension the belt.

yes like a cvh escort or 2wd

ive never known a 4wd to have a adjuster on it thats all

as on 4wd instead of adjusting the alternator to adjust the belts it has a belt tensioner like a zetec

Yeah, it should have an auto adjuster, but as there's no PS pump, aircon etc you won't have it as the tensioner is on the giant bracket that normally carries them.

The bracket i used was like you describe, flat metal bar with hole in one end and slot in the other, hole bolts to the waterpump, slot is used to tension the alternator. It just needs a 30deg bend after the hole, and a 30 deg bend the other way just before the slot

Only trouble is Hugh, im not sure mines a standard cossie one.......

If i was to bend mine it needs to be bent across the width if the bar as opposed to the thickness. and as its about an inch thick, no amount of banging it with a hammer will bend it.....

Well that was a complete bastard to get to....

You need the bracket xr4x4rs posted a pic of, think i got mine of an auto pinto sierra but i suspect any pinto sierra will do but then you need to reverse the bends accross the thickness.
