Default Welding techniques

Whats the best technique for welding plates in floor of a car? Ive put a couple in but i think my welding cud be betta, sometimes it dosent seem to take and then sometimes it just puts a hole in the floor!

Should it be welded from both sides?or should the weld go all the way through the metal? Also what settings would u use on the welder im using a 150 amp gas mig welder with 0.6mm wire!

I know it would be easier to get a proffessional but time and the fact i wanna do this myself, just so i know i can!

Thanks...

If welded properly you should only need to weld one side. Make sure its nice and clean, turn the welder flat out and get a bit off scrap metal and set the wire speed so it sounds on song not poping and farting. Then try tacking instead of doing a continuous weld this way you shouldnt blow any holes...... Good luck

just get the welder set up so it sounds like bacon frying and make sure you are welding good solid clean metal and i always use 0.8 wire

Cleanliness is key and make sure you move the tip of the welder into the gas stream and not away from it. The gas is there to keep it from oxidising This should prevent the spatter etc Always practive on a spare bit first too to make sure you have the gas and wire speed correct.

As sed, clean both car and plate (3mm chassie and 1.5 -2mm shell)

If your putting holes either turn welder down (either settings or wire speed) or move faster.
