Meh, do they enforce it themselves? There is a veritable glut of evidence to say that any code that the police enforce upon themselves gets ignored when its convenient for them. I would not be surprised if this was no different.

It was extremely common in the early 90's as I recall. Around the same time as the joyriding epidemic. The book on this actually specifically mentioned kids joyriding in XR's and the coppers getting Cossies to try and keep up

For all we know the driver could have been rushing to help someone and crashed as a result of someone elses negligance.
