crankshaft sensor / phase sensor? symptoms of a fooked one?

crankshaft sensor / phase sensor? symptoms of a fooked one?
if it was knackered, it wouldnt only make the car misfire on full boost would it???
also what does the phase sensor do? how can i check it. Iv eheard of people re-gapping / syncrosnising it

Clearances
TDC sensor to pulley teeth.............. 0.6 to 1.0 mm
Dizzy cam to phase sensor..............0.2 to 0.3mm
Prob just remove em, check curent flow with ohmeter or summat though I dont know how lol... clean up the faces with wd40 or summat, refit and gap???
You can see the phase sensor obviously has to be pretty accurate, and be careful as thewires probably are very brittle now.... Im sorry if they werent such delicate (when old) parts and easily buggered up..I wouldve run down to swop em over mate. But I dont fancy my chances lol

Dave,
Easiest way is to beg, steal or borrow one from someone and try it. There must be someone on here that can loan you a known good working one for an hour or so????
That way you will know within minutes if the sensor/brittle wire has a fault or not.
