note to self- when removing the rear wheel bearing on a bmw e30, make sure that you do NOT hit your fingers with a lump hammer

and also, its easier to remove the bearing with the rear beam off the car - less chance of hitting your fingers

I think it's better to remember this simple rule, you'll find it applies to most things

'when using a hammer, mallet, end of your ratchet to hit things avoid striking ones fingers with said hitting implement'

Chip, I can't for the life of me work out what's going on in that pic.... I thought wheel bearings just unbolted? Well, except for the ones that manage to weld themselves on, of course.

Which is probably what happened to yours

jay, its a primitive puller, the threaded bar goes through the hub and connects to the back of the bearing, doing up the nut pulls it out.

the heat is just to encourage it, as was mongo whacking it with a hammer at the same time

Chip - have you got a picture of the puller from behind the bearing flange? or any other pictures if possible
