Have you actually spoken to ANYONE at the garage to see what's happened?
It could just be an honest overlooked mistake... if the dealer had filled out the logbook in your name, (not right, I agree, but not illegal) a subsequent buyer could have signed it by mistake (yes, cock-ups happen), the Dealer could now be going mad trying to find you.
Just a thought. I've have spoken to the garage again before involving the police tbh. It's only a logbook, it's absolutely no proof of ownership, just a keeper.

DVLA won't give a stuff who the scribble in the signature box was done by or belongs to, won't need to be forging your signature, it may well say mickey mouse, they won't care...
