Commuting to London
I need to do this for a week next week as I am on a training course. I'm not a city boy, but go to London every once in a while. I'll be commuting from Buckinghamshire by train to Marylebone which is on the Bakerloo line and I need to get to EC2 (nearest tube appears to be Old Street) which is on the Northern Line. Just though't i'd ask any city go'ers what's the best way to get to / from here each day.

ignore the tube map and get a proper street map. you may find it easier to gt off at a station a few streets away and walk thru the city. a lot of stops LOOK like theyre far apart on the map, but theyre actually just the other side of the road! (Bank's a great example)
also remember the city is only a square mile, so walking from one end to the other doesn't take long. its often faster to walk places plus it's good exercise

Cheers Jim
I think the main thing that I wondered was whether I can change lines easily enough from Marylebone, looks like it'll be Metropolitan and then get off around Euston Or so it 'seems' on paper
Just wondered if anyone did the route and also how much time I should leave myself, I need to be there at around 9am, I'd planned to be at Marylebone around 8ish or something, but i'd guess it'll be proper manic at that time in the morning.

Have you tired looking this up online?
There is an online journey planner which is really handy, tells you everything you need to know including the train times etc..

I used to go see a mate when I was at school who lived in Wanstead. No buses ran from my way to his, so I got a bud to Loughton, tube to Leytonstone, then had to cross the platform and wait for a train that went round the loop bit to get to Wanstead.
I did this for about 6 months, till one day my mate told me it was only 1 street length (less than 5 mins walk) to walk from the Wanstead station to the Snaresbrook one Bearing in mind that it was often 20mins or so to get from the Snaresbrook station to Leytonstone, cross platforms, wait for other train

I work in EC2V & commute from Birmingham daily arriving at the office at 7:15
having done ths for 18 months i am possibly the expert in commuting to the city now
from Buckingham you can choose whether to drive to Milton Keynes & use Virgin / Sliverlink into Euston or
Jump on the Chiltern line into Marylebone.
My suggestions for each are this
If Euston :- walk to Euston Square (4mins) take a choice of Met, Circle or Hemmersmith & City line tubes to Barbican 3rd stop Takes abt 7 mins.
Pretty good point to arrive in EC2 - quite central
If Marylebone :- walk down the rd to Baker St (2 mins follow the crowd)
this brings you to the same lines 2 stations before Euston Sq
which i s your nearest station on the chiltern line?

doesn't always work like that though... i used to be able to get to work in broadgate from chelmsford in 45 minutes door to door... now it takes me an hour to get in from croydon due to having to get the crazy stop everywhere train from south croydon and then walk from london bridge.

When I used to work in South London, I used to commute into London Bridge everyday (my work was 5 min walk from London Bridge station)
I had to leave mine in Waltham Abbey, Essex at 7am by bus to Loughton > Central Line to Bank, switch to Northern Line to London Bridge and then walk the five mins to work.
That was an hour and a half everyday - plus the same on the way back, but due to bus times, that was nearer 2hr return journey!
And I only live about 25miles from Central London aswell
When I got a car I was able to shave off 10 or 15mins from that as I could drive to Loughton to get the tube rather than bus to and from.....
But fuck Birmingham to London daily commute
