I have noted quite a few people moaning lately that they cant say the word cunt and are accusing the moderators of being power mad and overzealous by enforcing this solitary rule.... so:

My Questions:

1) Whats the problem?
Why cant you type a message without using that word?

2) Most websites you use ban ALL swear words. Would you rather we ban them all so we have a little more conformity, surely that would save you feeling that banning just teh one word was over teh top.

3) Would you prefer that we unbanned it?

I think the word cunt is usefull as it is deemed harsh. Makes a point.

I dont think its personally that bad.

I think Vagina is a much worse word

In answer to the first question, Dave has a disorder, whereby he uses that word to release anger from his system, and release any pent up frustration.

Franco uses it in every post because he's an unoriginal copying cun.........

To be honest, whatever's the rules is the rules........

not the word its self

It can be either offensive or funny if used in the right context

Personally i'm not bothered as I rarely use it un like Dave

Banning all swear words is very difficult as every person is offended by different words

People will just moan about something else if you allow its use

Sorry for not replying to all 3 questions, but I don't think it's the use of the word, I believe the mods are getting stick for it because they're not banning people uniformly.

Ban someone for saying it, or don't. Don't just 'ignore' the occasional one because it's so-and-such-a-body's mate, or 'he's just having a laugh, isn't he funny'.

I can type a sentance without that word, just like i could type a sentance without pretty much any other word, but i dont see why certain words need to be banned in the first place

2) Most websites you use ban ALL swear words. Would you rather we ban them all so we have a little more conformity, surely that would save you feeling that banning just the one word was over the top.
No i dont think swear words should be banned

3) Would you prefer that we unbanned it?
Yes i would prefer it if you unbanned it as some people find it a useful word to express things with and it doesnt offend me

1 - No problem, I like it being banned, i know lots of people find it VERY offensive, the alternatives for it are funny especially the ones used by Dave and Franco in their banter, probably the most entertaining thing on here lately with all the boring bitching with Chip/Phil/Modpower etc. Ban all the spuds till they behave, it's like a fookin primary school playground

2- I like the freedom this site has and feel unmoderated language apart from untC is great. Most people can communicate as they would verbally in real life, lets face it we all swear at some time

3 - No, see my answer to question 1

yep - i don't really have a problem with it being banned or not, although it's a mystery to me as to why some people find it so offensive. it's only a word ffs!

2) Most websites you use ban ALL swear words. Would you rather we ban them all so we have a little more conformity, surely that would save you feeling that banning just the one word was over the top.
No i don't think all swearing should be banned!

3) Would you prefer that we unbanned it?
probably, yes - would save people from gettng banned over use of a word rather than actually being deliberately abusive to someone for example.

i really dont care either way, its just a forum who really cares?

its just something to moan about imo, and besides everyone reads the word if its not writen anyway. even if its edited to a . then people would still read the word in their head when they see it anyway.

ie. dave you really are a .

quite obvious aint it!

I can and do generally, but it can be amusing in the right situation

I have no problem with banning that word. Don't ban them all though.

You can't please all of the people all of the time. Those who like the word will be happy, those offended will not.

I thought this forum was run and generally used by mature adults? It seems a bit irish to me that these mature adults cant read a single word? In my opinion, there are much worse topics posted everyday that include worse content than the word in discussion? Yet no one seems to moan about them?

2) Most websites you use ban ALL swear words. Would you rather we ban them all so we have a little more conformity, surely that would save you feeling that banning just the one word was over the top.
As above, surely people can cope with swearing? Its a day to day thing in fairness, Obviously if people are taking it to the extreme, and abusing people, then they need to be dealt with appropriatly, however banning word(s) is very immature in my opinion.

3) Would you prefer that we unbanned it?
Yes.

1: I can type without it if need be, but I think it's because it's used so commonly by people I know that I don't find it offensive at all. I guess I'm desensitized to it and so are all the others who don't find it offensive.

The difference being that those who do find it offensive are probably people who don't hear the word every day, and so have not become desensitized to it.

2: No. Don't ban them. Threads would be written in a bland, flat style all the time if this were to happen. Nothing wrong with a bit of colour and tbh it's often hard to express yourself properly without it.

3: This is a toughy.... on the one hand it's my right as a person to say what I want, when I want. On the other hand, organisations have rules, and if you don't like them, you don't have to be a part of them. Further still, there are folks who will argue it's their right to ask that the word not be used.

Now, I honestly feel that the right to say something ranks higher than the right to not have it said. That's just my person opinion.

I would like to know why women in particular find it so offensive yet there's not one word referring to a man's genitalia that's considered too offensive to be used.

Smacks of inequality to me.

But alas, I feel the only way to rectify this once and for all is to code in an option for everybody to either check or uncheck on their profiles:

Filter certain swearwords - Yes or No.

Dunno how hard that is to implement but it's the only way this will go away.

There does seem to be a lot of people being banned lately as well, but that's not to say that it's not because a lot of people are choosing to flout the rules at the moment.

I think the mods do a very hard job and I would hope nobody gets banned for no reason.

1) Yes of course people can type a message without saying cnut, they dont write it in every e-mail they type, they dont say it every conversation they have.

I'm sure even Dave Escock isnt sitting round the table at a family meal saying things like... 'Auntie, could you pass the horseradish you old cnut' now is he.....

2) Most Forums accept that they are public forums that are read by many more people that contribute to them and most respect the fact that a certain percentage are going to be children and a certain percentage are going to be wimmin, hence the swearing bans.

3) Keep it banned, its not needed We get VERY uppity about any kind of racism, I am sure women find Cnut as offensive as black people find words like....'Ni...' offensive.

1. Im not bothered either way, banned or not. if its banned then i wont use it.

2. shouldnt ban all swear words cos its a good way of getting ya point accross.

3. its up to the mods what gets banned or not. we have the priviledge of using the site, not the other way round.

1) I think it is a very harsh word, and could easily be taken very offensively be someone. People should not be calling other ppl cnuts. end of.

2) not in favour of banning other swear words. They are less harsh and used more regularly in everyday language.

3) No. But if ppl could be trusted to moderate themselves we wouldn't need it banned anyway.

No, the current word list is fine for me

Not if it offends some people on here, I really don't see why people feel such a need to use it constantly.

However, having banned it probably has resulted in the opposite effect, it appears to be used a lot more now as a sign of retaliation and mod/people baiting (different subject altogether).

Either ban it and it's variations, or don't do it at all imo.

My Questions:

1) Whats the problem?
Why cant you type a message without using that word?

i dont think anyone cannot type without i dont really know why ppl are bothered but on the other hand surly

rape is a word 100 times worse than cunt

some women get offened by the word i cannot understand why i could understand them being offeneded by the word rape as that word could bring on some awfull memorys / visions

but what is so bad about the word cunt that means its offensive

you dont see anyone moaning about the words dick, prick, cock there all in the same context of refering to the private parts of a male or female

i just dont get what the problem is i once had a gilfriend who hated the word BUT she could not give me any reason why she did

2) Most websites you use ban ALL swear words. Would you rather we ban them all so we have a little more conformity, surely that would save you feeling that banning just the one word was over the top.

1. Typing a message with out the word is easy. Just dont think of the word.

2. Banning all swear words would be counter productive as every one probably including you Stu would be banned all the time.

3. I don't really care as I can see both sides of the coin. The word really doesn't bother me at all (but it does bother the females).

When someone calls me a . I just think that a . is a useful thing.

Its the spare skin around it that causes all the problems.

No problem with it being banned although it does seem a bit futile to ban just 1 word Seems to cause more grief and work for the mods than its worth imo.
If you ban all swear words from PF it will lose even more of its individuality and we are all adults so no need.
I would not have any words banned at all.

maybe i am looking at this wrong but for what its worth

1) If you ban a word then fine i am more than able to put together a sentance without using that word, and honestly fell its over usage is purley down to people wanting to court controversy,

2) a vote to see what should/should not be banned would be a good idea

3) Would you prefer that we unbanned it?

no problem
i dont type it much in all honesty
it seems to be a londoner thing (or wannabe londoner thing if you include johnnyb ROFL)
maybe thats because the londoners are what they type so frequently

100% uninterested either way if you ban them people will just mispell them to get the same message accross

If c**t is allowed then why not change the swear filter to show this when people type the full word?

Surely that keeps both sides happy then
