Anybody in the TA
Are any of you lot in the TA? If so I have a few questions, me and a couple of mates are looking at joining the specialist division, what are the chances of being called up for combat? How many of you went to Afghanistan or Iraq?
Also whats the TA like in general?

Was looking to join myself, logistics department as I hold a class one HGV, but it definately means doing a tour of Iraq and or Afganistan, I think this applies to all TA units, give it some thought there are some real enimies around the world at the moment.

I was in the TA 15 years ago, so I assume a lot has changed since then!
Was told during the first gulf war to write out a will and call up papers would be served any day! Also had armed guard on the gate.
In general it was a good laugh back then but when you consider that most of our armed forces logistical troops are TA I would give it serious thought cos you will get called up, there are just not enough soldiers for all our peacekeeping roles.

As arch said, i was in the regulars 6 years ago. when we went on operational tours we had TA lads with us to boost our numbers, god knows what its like now, our forces are more streched than ever! Hope this hasnt put you off!!!

It would be for the IT/comms division, it says minimum 19 days a year and can leave when you want except for mobilization. It says most put themselves forward for tours although sometimes you are called up.
