im sorry but the old man had an m3 evo and i thought it werent up to much at all, took far to much winding up and had a seriouse lack of tourque, and before some smart arse post up that it was a poorly engine, had it rolling roaded at 325 bhp.

from a standing start, the evo would lick it, but i reckon a decent rs with a good bit of power (urs is a zvh to so lots of tourque) and with the much higher power to weight ratio, the rs will keep up as i proved to the old man in my escort with 232bhp @ the wheels
and he was trying proved buy the fact he hit the limiter in every gear.

and m3 has 320 @ the fly wheel, so u work out the wheel figure, i also think ur fing the tourque figure is about the same,

over all, i wasnt impressed with the drive of the evo, cap brakes, sspension werent up the the engine either, i think the 3.0 gt mr is a much better chioce.

drag strip ent no good for this comparison, get the to brunters and go from 30 on wards.

tbh this is a bit of a silly comparison any way, a small front wheel drive verses a rwd mucle car

some put a 300 bhp rwd drive saph against an evo, then weel see

Would have thought there would be no competition , maybe a normal m3 but the evo would piss all over the fiestas chips

So, your Escort with 232 @ the wheels could keep up. Hmm, a FRST with 220 @ fly would be well out it's depth then As for having to wind it up, it sounds like the Vanos was fucked. Peak torque is made at 3250rpm and its bhp at 7400rpm so it has plenty power through out you'd agree? As for having the GT, well it's still an awesome car but, it's slower, older, has THE most hideous interior ever and virtually everything was put on the Evo including alloy doors. Infact the only thing that wasn't was the strut brace, however the better suspension on the Evo would just about make up for it. As for comparisson, I didn't pick on the little Ford, it was posted by the little Ford

I would have thought the answer is easy

Can your Fiesta do the SS 1/4 in 13.8 or less? If yes, it looks as if it's faster than an Evo over the quarter mile..........

Here's one doing it in 13.6, but believe me it can be done in 13.5 infact some have claimed less

dont get me wrong EIL132
the m3 is a good car and is powerfull, i was just expecting more for the size of the engine and the power,
there was nout wrong with this one either, in fact it was a 40,000 mile minter.
the car is an awsome tourer, awsome sonding, oversteering beast
but uve got to agree, the brakes are shocking and the suspension isnt up to the job.

and the evo has got one of the nicest interiors of the 90's full stop.
just to big and frumpy tho, should have been more like the e30 m3 evo. light and nimble, its the m5s job to be a touring weapon.

just my opinion tho

A genuine 220 hp Fiesta would only keep up with the M3 at best, and would start to lose ground at higher speeds.

Power-to-weight is meaningless as the powerband used differs between the gears aswell as drag.

Also that a 100 hp, 500kg car will not keep up with a 200 hp, 1000 kg car at higher speeds. Power is power, and drag does not give a damn how light a car is.

Well I'm glad this isn't a 1 sided disdussion! Fiesta's done a 14.0 1/4 & dont think I can beat that. Never taken M3 & didn't know times. I reckon it's difficult to compare (without timing) cuz the fiesta's power coming all at once & M3 being more gradual (plus sounds like I dont cane it anywhere near enough!!!!!!)
Very interesting to hear all the different opinions, cheers guys.

Bit more info
Performance Car mag Sept 93 tested a Dakar Yelloww 286bhp M3 and did a 13.6 @102mph ss 1/4 with Datron timing gear

To be fair to Autocar, though I think they run with 2 up and half a tank of fuel whereas I suspect Performance Car didn't

Second that matey, deffo one of the nicest interiors around, shame about the convertibles where you had to get the re-inforced seats and not the vader ones

Santa Pod, I raced an M3 four times in my greens, T3 saff RWD, and we posted 13.6 @ 101/102 every single time (give or take a few hundreths).

Fiesta turbo is going out the back door faster than your piece on the side when the missus comes home!

Did you find the M3 got off the line a bit better and then you caught it at the line or were you level pegging pretty much?
