Default My Turbo Rebuild Update

My T34 has been sent off for a rebuild and just had a call notifying me of the list of problems with it

Excessing scoring on the blades
Penny valve fooked and bent
360 bearing fooked.
slight crack in 0.63 housing

and a few other bits which i forgot to write down

the guy rebuilding it even says to my mate the car must be running some high power for it to damage it like that

erm yep @ 400 bhp and getting thrashed around Silverstone twice does tend to take alot out of a turbo

I was expecting a repair bill of 250 but have bene told its gonna cost 450 for the all singing all dancing turbo properly built.

Now I wish o bought that GT35 on ebay the other week for 500 quid

Still at least the car will be on the road by the start of June even if t is only for a few weeks until my insurance runs out - then its decide to keep, sell or break

Depends which one, but the one just below the GT35 is a 550bhp turbo (flat out).

Turbo £1000 ish
Manifold £1100 (or Martin's modified 2wd item, see his website).
External wastegate £400

I think you would be better off with one of Harvey's T38 for your power level....

Ran, please remember a change in turbo will require additional mapping to compensate for the big blower.

So too all that cost add in a additional £250 - 400 for mapping

Jay that is true if you are changing spec of the turbo or any other component within the engine.

Im not tho as my turbo is being rebuilt but will have a few nikasil coated items (i think to stop them bending ) so in theory its pretty much the same turbo but newer.

I will obviously get it checked for Det. Am also on the rollers with the Berks crew so will be able to tell when its on the rollers.

Went to pick tht eturbo up yesterday - and what can i say

It looks the dogs - will get some pics up later.

Proper mint now with all new internals, exh housing, etc.

The final price was a bit of a shocker too at £530

apparently, the cause of the penny in my exh housing being bent and skewed up was down to the actuator being wound too tight. Neither Geoff (My mechanic) nor me have touched this since the car was setup by Mark @ Grove and Ahmed last year.

I find this quite hard to believe that they would miss this or even do it but im not gonna point the blame as it was a year ago.
