Default FAO Steve N Itsmeagain.. or anyone else who knows....

about R5 turbos.

My mates seen one hes interested in and asked me if I know owt about em, but I dont know shit about em!

What sort of things should you be looking for on a viewing/test drive etc...

Whats the common faults and probs.

The engine is apparently around 300bhp and has been built by EP motorsport ever heard of em??

Spec;

Full EP motorsport race spec engine.
Lightened and balanced bottom end
New big ends, mains
EP high strength steel liners
EP low comp pistons
EP race cam
Group N clutch
Group A headgasket
Fully doweled oil and waterways
EP stage 5 polished and ported head, multi angle valve seats
Group A carb
Group A fuel pump
Double capacity i/c
T3/T28 hybrid
Scorpion, filter, dumper etc.....
Adjustable boost - 28psi
Copper cored rad
25 shot of Nos with seperate fuel pump blah, blah, blah.

Does it sound any good? The guy wants 4K for it.

Jus want an idea on what to look for and if the spec sounds right? Dont want to see him get stitched.

I personally dont trust no fucker when it comes to cars now and wouldnt waste me dollar , but its his cash and hes determined to get one, so want to try and help him get a good un.

Thank you please.

Nobody knows ANYTHING but me facto

EP Motorsport is my matey Ian Nixon, Europarts Motorsport in Stoke

300bhp my arse is the first thing to say I doubt Ian would claim that either.

Ian/EP built my 5s engine and 2 of my mates too, never had a problem even tho nobody ran less than 1.5bar and were caned to fook.

Spec seems fine for maybe 250bhp tho, possibly a little less as id expect its using a hybrid rover tomcat turbo.

Id be sceptical about the uprated liners unless theres a reciept too, as tho they desirable, they not that common.

28psi isnt that high, trust me

Id ring Europarts with a description of the mota and ask Ian about it, he wont blag you, hes a quality bloke and should remember the car.

Not a load to lookout for on the testdrive really, usual stuff, jus cane it around and see how it goes, dont be afraid to rev it if it feels like the powers up there, mine revved clean off the clock and peak power was 6750rpm.
Check it dont jump out of gear when you let off sharply as that could be a split gearbox casing, ive never found that happening, but its "allegedly" common.
They dont rust really, check it drives straight, and handles and stops good (as they do even standard).

They ARE reliable if you know how to look after em, thing is most people dont, even so called "experts", too many people whos owned a big power one (that they bought pre-modded for big cash) then claim they experts, id stick with Europarts if your remotley local, Ians a top bloke.

Anything else, jus ask, im writing quick here as at work so probly missed stuff.

Cool, Nice one geez.

He went out for a thrash in it today and says its a fast fooker!

Whats all this group n group a stuff too, dont one of them mean standard??

The lad told him it has steel liners, why are these used??

He recons its 275 bhp with the nos, so what your sayin sounds about right.

Make sure you got some proof of mods, as even with WAY under 250bhp itd be unbelivably fast, and will rip the fuck outa stg1 modded Sti's etc.

Steel liners are used, very rarely (so id doubt it without a reciept), becuase std ones have been known to crack above 2bar boost.

GrpN+GrpA means nothing with GTTs, tho GrpA named stuff is generally better.

Soo much GTT owners talk shit, so id want proof of mods, ring Ian@Europarts if theres no reciepts to prove.
