Default What graphics card shall i get?

Need some advice from the computer bods please!

I play battlefield 2 on my PC with an Nvidea Geforce 6600GT card but as you can imagine i cant play it with all the graphics turned up coz it just freezes all the time.

What card do you recommend for around £300, my PC spec is as follows:

Asus A8N Sli Deluxe MBoard
AMD 3500 64 (Runs at 45C Not overclocked)
Soundblaster Fatal1ty
1Gb of RAM Corsair (2x 512Mb matched pair)
Gainward Geforce 6600GT SLi 256Mb (Golden Sample)
All running with the latest drivers

Can i put an ATi card in there coz i heard that they are better???

Thanks in advance,

Dave

ATI cards are not specifically better then Nvidia cards, but ATI's X1900XT(X) can handle HDR, FSAA and AF the same time, while Nvidia cards can not. So, image quality might be slightly better with the ATI's (although the IQ of the Nvidia cards is also very nice)
However, the Nvidia Geforce 7900 GT is really great value for money and a pretty damn fast GPU, with a huge OC potential, and (in Holland) much cheaper then a ATI X1900 XT.
If you go for a 7900 GT, buy a XFX one, as some other manufacturers (Evga) had issues with their cards.

I can't see why its freezing with a 6600GT, they are a very fast card, plus you can buy another one to link up to it. Are your ones PCi Express?

my graphic card is set to low on everything as it just carnt cope, carnt remember which one is in there but im not upgrading due to new pc being built

which im going to be running 2x 7900 gtx extremem edition 512mb

if pci slot then go down the 7900 route or 7800 you wont go wrong

if agp then get the best one you can get basically

Thanks for the replies guys

Yes my card is a pci express but when i turn up all the graphics it doesnt like it at all, if i put another 6600GT in there so i have an SLi setup it will still not be as good as a newer card.

This card still cost me £130 i thought it would last a BIT longer than this!! lol

So its not worth me going to the darkside with an ATi card then? I thought they were quicker than the Nvidias

Have you got any ideas/links on a good make?

Yeah sometimes you need more RAM to get the most out of a graphics card, although the one you have now is probably running at full speed judging by your spec, probably only with higher spec cards that you need minimum 2gb to get full potential

i'd go for the 7900gt over the gtx just for the value for money factor.

for the price of a gtx u could put a bit more and run 2 7900gt's in sli mode.

Lcd's dont have refresh rates, hence why you can take a picture of the screen with no lines running up and down the screen

Its just that the pixles are slower at changing colours or something but nowa days the new lcd's are easily caplable of running top games, just dont get anything above 8-12ms and you should be laughing
