Just spoke to a guy at Yokohama - the AVS sport is gradually being phased out although he said you should still be able to get them for a "good while" ( not sure how long that is in weeks! ).
It is being replaced by the S-drive ( for smaller sizes like us Neil ) and the Advan Sport for bigger sizes.
The inference I got is that both these replacements are more comfort/low-noise orientation than the AVS sport which is considered a noisy tyre ( a criticism I have seen of them in various tyre tests ).
Their very high performance tyre is now the Parada but unfortunately for people with OE spec Cossie wheels, this isn't available in our size.
As I see it you've
either
1/ got to go for something more extreme like an R-888
2/ chase down old stock of AVS or Pilot Sports ( big suppliers like Elite BMTR or Demon Tweeks might have bigger stocks of old stock - if that makes sense )
3/ get bigger wheels
4/ try something else like a ZZ3, NCT5, Bridgestone RE040 etc
Let us know what you plump for and how it fares compared to the F1s

I find the t1r's on the front of the teg absolutly fantastic, well grippy in a straight line and faultless in the bends, i did the gables pub to stokesly and back again in 6 minutes the other night lol.
You can feel them flexing a bit but nothing to corse concern imo. The only downside i can see to them is that i am wearing the outside edge on the nearside tyre out rather quickly due to excessive roundabout manouvers lol
On another note i had pirrelli p7000's all round on my stage3 2wd and they were amazing in 17s though

Alps Pacino many people say T1r's are flexible like condoms, more limo tyre :-(
I don't know myself, never tried them, but I've heard that LOADS of times

I soppose its down to the car there fitted on and the driving style of the driver.
As stated i managed a 2.376 60 foot time on the 1/4 in the wet in my integra with them which is apparently the sort of time a civic type-r gets in the dry lol
They feel grippy in the bends and tbh the tyre flex seems to help them grip rather than being more rigid and understeering???????????
I am on stock rims and 195-50-15's so not laggy band tyres and they feel fantastic on the car with plenty of feedback etc. But a 190bhp fwd integra cant be compared to a 300bhp rwd saph can it.

Alps Pacino I know nearly nothing about drag strip performance, drag is not motorsport for me...
As to corners - rigidity, feel and control is a lot in a good sporty tyre. It doesn't have to be best gripping for me if it has all that. I'm not fighting for half of second a kilometer on road, I just want fun. Modern road tyres have performance of late 80's slicks anyway...

Well in that case it matches all the criteria of being an excelent road tyre for a very good price, i paid Ł50 each fitted which is good imo.
As i said they offer great feedback and loads of grip and road noise isnt to bad even though thats the least of my worries with my silly loud exhaust lol.
On the integra there good and so were the bridgestones that were on it, the toyo's are better though imo, but as i said other seem to find them rubbish but i like them and they seem to suit the teg and my driving style
If i had another cossie i would be going for the pirelli p7000's again though cause they felt great on the car

Whatever I may say it's most important that tyres suited you, not me If they work for you that's fine. It's likeevery driver likes his own setup.

Thats what i mean, they might be utter poo but for the way i drive (fast lol) they do just fine imo.
Its only the second pair i have had on but they seem better than the Bstones, i have had yokos on the crx in 17s and they were poo, i also had p7000's on the nova 16v which were good but not as good as they were on the cossie.
I also ussed to find the uniroyals quite good untill i tried a few other brands and found them to be an average tyre compared to the others above.
Its a debate that could be discussed for years, its personal preference rather than whats good and whats not imo

I know how we could settle that. We get two brand new sports cars, empty track and piles of rubber and try them all I'm sure I could convince you And then we go on special stage and I try to persuade you to harder rubber

Time to drag this up again!
I'm still looking - my F1's are deader than tank tops now lol.
I'm toying with the idea of getting Pilot Exalto PE2's - a mate has them on her Clio Cup, going to drive that tomorrow and see what I think.
Does anybody have any other ideas?
Neil.

Not a great deal of choice still Neil on 205/50x15
I've still got a few AVS Sports which suit me but if I was going for mixed use it looks like a choice of those Michelins you mention or Potenza RE040 ( no idea how good they are I'm afraid ) or the T1-Rs ( with their reported issues although a lot of the Jap car fans rate them )
Personally, if all my tyres popped tomorrow I'd get R-888s in 15" or go for 16" wheels ( F1s, Paradas Conti Sport Contacts etc etc etc much more choice of top makes)

I was speaking to a guy at Combe who had them on his car in the club section - he was on 15" alloys and he said he only used them in the dry ( evident from the car itself ) and they were superb - he said he'd done about 3.5k on them and there was fair bit left . Like us, it was a shortage of performance tyres in our size that led him to try them.
They'll be what i get next unless someone recommends one of the remaining Bridgestone, Dunlop or Michelins as being great in the dry.
I'm sure there's a few on here that must use the R888s as an everyday tyre

Either that or look out for something like this on the Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1 - If the wheels are straight, that works out at good value in my books.

All I can say is dont get the ZZ3's you were on about. I know of two sets, mine and someone completely related which wore about an inch on the inside of the tyre and the rest of the tyre was like brand new. Mine was on my Vito van front and rear and the other were on the rear of a Saab. So they even did it on a rear beamed car. I had all of my tracking checked on a laser machine but it was perfect which made no sense.
I currently use Yokohama Parada's and they are superb but they are 18".

I love em and my local dealer does very good prices on them as he has a container full.
Ask Dan Savage what he thinks of some I got for him recently--- seems to like em!
