the welds look ok, but you should really have been using an arc to get enough heat into the metal
on the other hand, you cn always take the diff cage apart and have a machined bit of metal put there to slot the 2 sets of outputs together

Looking good, but to make it last, you should weld the wheels on the driveshafts on to the diffhousing.

Not the outer housing of course...

that's my mate mike, not me gareth he just had a quick go to try out the new automatic dimming mask

YBP not sure what you mean mate could you explain more please? it's not in yet, so i could do more to it.

just to explain, i first welded all 4 gears together in the corners and then put a 3mm plate in the gap and seam welded all around it. then turned the carrier through 180 degrees and did the same on the other side. so there's effectively a big box section in the middle.

doji believe me, the mig was powerful enough to melt the teeth, no crappy stick welded was needed. the proff will be in the pudding i suppose though.

Mustve been welded REALLY badly then

Done properly it often makes the diffs way stronger than standard, and people run mega power through them for years with no problems.

it will prob be the worst thing youve ever done to a cars handling, or just to a car full stop. i hope you never have to try and turn round in any sort of space pal.
i can understand why people do this, but theres always a compromise, yours will be the cars handling in any situation unless both wheels are spinning at speed

Thats a good strong welded diff there actually mate

I mean this is prob the beefiest ive ever seen, n yous is jus as good...

Drift practice days? Well the news n events section on Driftworks is your best place to look, but generally theres practice stuff at Silverstone every month or so, and other places, and North Weald should be doing motnhly ones again soon.

15th May at silverstone is drift school and a normal practice day

I know many people who run welders on daily drivers with no issues.
Only time its ever particularly noticable for me is on tight sub 10mph turns.
And when pushing it round corners yourself, thats hard work

markk Am I bovvered? Am I bovvered, though? Do I look bovvered? Am I bovvered, though, Look at my face, does it look bovvered, though? Look at my face. Look at my face. Look at my face, though. Does any part of it look bovvered? Am I bovvered? Ask me if I'm bovvered. Go on, ask me if I'm bovvered. Ask me. Ask me if I'm bovvered. No, I ain't even bovvered.

just a bit of fun mate, got to do it once in your life haven't you to get it out of your system?

Itsmeagain thanks for the info. might see you at one soon, hopefully

that one does look stronger. i'm tempted to do that to mine now, but the casing is cast so maybe welding it will be tricky or weaken it. think i'll leave it as is and if it breaks just get another lsd.

Yours looks as good or better than ones ive seen on big power drifty SXs and Skylines, so should be fine mate.

But the one I posted up looks like it could survice a nuclear attack
