For the past few months i have been working away and it is a 120mile round trip each day up the M40

WHY DO PEOPLE NOT USE THE LANES FOR THE CORRECT REASON.

KEEP LEFT UNLESS OVERTAKING

The fookers are doing my head in, sitting in the middle/fast lane when there is nothing to over take

 

Very true mate, i get pissed off with people sitting up my arse when i over take, but this is on a dual carrage way and there are so many lorries now a days

People can't slow down for 30 secs

 

totally agree was on m40 today comin back from luton and there a couple of grannies in a micra in the right hand lane doin 60

 

Im a hgv driver and i agree it pisses me right off...

i drive a 7.5 tonner up and down the m6 and im limited to just over 70mph ,these cunts get on my baps aswell

Just do what i do , right up there arse with main beam on than soon moves em along

My thoughts exactly, how do people feel about undertaking then?

I dont swerve across the lanes like a piss head, but certainly use the inside whenever possible, had some funny looks recently, crusing on a quiet motorway, in the inside lane, and people on the middle / outside give me some right ominous looks, like I shouldn't be there!!!

I did this very same rant about a month back

I undertake 5 cars per day at least i think. People are wankers and cant drive, but im not shy at undertaking and flashing the wankers out the way.

Just on way home tonight i decided to move it up a gear and anyone who ws dawdling in middle lane got underertook at about 120 on the clock

They soon move over after they shit themselfs at being undertook at twice the speed they was doing by a car with its horn held down

 

naughty boy!!!

 

undertaking is fine, as long as you understand that many drivers who do 65 mph in the wrong lane are also likely not to check thier mirror before moving accross and wrecking your car.

anyone notice its called undertaking?, kind of appropriate.

agreed. I do a lot of motorway miles and its one of my pet hates. seems people are scared of the inside lanes like they will lose control on a bend and fall of the side of the motorway!

 

too true, i drive a van for work and the ammount of people who dont check their n/s mirror is scary. wakes me up though

 

Know the feeling, worst still I travel to work on a dual carriage way with only two lanes, and there are so many slip roads joining it, that people are afraid to go into the left hand lane, so everyone crawls at 65/70 bumper to bumper in the outside lane while the inside lane is free most of the time...

You could cruise at a 100 in the inside lane without any problems

Except for the twats who decide to come off at the last minute when they could have been in the correct lane for ages

Just got home as took the misses out for a meal, doing roughly 70, there is nothing else nr us except for a mk4 astra in the middle lane with the o/s/f head light out

people who go to the outside lane when overtaking a lorry need a headbutt too.

there was 2 cars back to back doing that on way home today, so me n some geezer in a new Pug estate thing just drove though the middle of em

i just undertake em and then turn into em a little early so they almost hit the central barrier and from that point then seem atleast find there way to the middle lane

Just undertake pull in infront of them and slow right down, they dont like that or get flames coming out the exhaust, set the old fookers perms up

come up at silly speeeds .. i pull out at 70 .. they sit behind me till i have overtaken .. then accelerate up and overtake when i pull back in ... so why not go into lane 3 to overtake me then ??? instead of sitting there 4 inches from my bumper just because you are there does not mean i will go any faster..

like the twats that sit behind you with their indicators on left in the outside lane .. trying to make you pull back in to let them past ... well ffs i can't pull in there 2 bloody 40 foot lorries there ...

Yes,I DO drive on the motorways---all the time ! I happen to be a HGV1 driver and I see fooking idiots all the time.
If I started behaving like some people have suggested they do ,with a 44 tonner,just think of the absolute carnage I could cause with that!

I totally agree that there are too many bad drivers out there --- the 'lane discipline' is bloody atrocious! The cops should nick those who refuse to use the lanes properly,then we'd ALL get down the road quicker,wouldn't we ??

dont forget that when you pass a lorry (!) you run the risk of not being seen as you draw alongside. This is especially true of continental LHD vehicles, who simply wont see you. there are several accidents each year by lorries deciding to pull out as cars are overtaking them.

If its clear, I always go to the outside lane to overtake, (if not already there doing 65)

Jayen4 - as u have HGV, does your vehicle have a blind spot, or do your mirrors cover it ok?

 

Yes it is very very annoying but I would not undertake someone. that pisses me off more than anything else particularly when you are queueing to get past when someone is holding up the fast lane. People always try to be clever and pull up the inside of you to save some time but tbh its more dangerous than anything else. If someone was to pull in on you then you would not have a leg to stand on. Id rather slow down and flash the idiots out of the way then undertake.

 

Most modern (big) trucks have nearside blindspot mirrors......however,if your tucked in close to the n/s corner,you may still not be seen !! The very latest trucks are beggining to use the Japanese set up,with a mirror that covers down the front (close up) of the truck,so that's better!!

One thing which most car drivers don't understand with big trucks (artics),is when we have to pull well over to the 'wrong' side of the road to get into a tight left turn....many a time,I've had cars trying to come up the nearside,just as I swing hard left,for the turn.. THAT'S when I can't see the car coming !! Cars can get 'run over' , when they do that !! Sure surprises them,when they see the unit comin' at 'em !! LOL !!

You MUST pay attention,when a big truck gives a signal for a certain manouvre (sp) ....They DO mean it !!

 

Indeed, however, if there is no one in front of the lorry, or no slip road, it has no reason for moving into the middle lane, so you should be able to overtake there without much concern.
When I do, I make sure I am past as soon as quickly as possible and don't dawdle there, unlike some.

If the road is clear - it makes sense, and I do it too. If you are holding up a convoy, and the left hand lane is empty (as it usually is), less so. I think this is what Steve (Itsmeagain) was referring to

 

I agree with Jayen4, i use the motorway daily, and middlelane hoggers really piss me off but i just give em a flash and move on, sitting on their arses or flashing them out the way is stupid and just as bad and likly to cause accidients,

 

always have respect for most lorry drivers .. but there are still some who need beating with a big stick ...
i think that as part of the test you should have to drive an artic in a controlled enviroment so that you can get an understanding of how hard it is for them on the roads ..
i know people that always overtake them on lane 3 as they are scared of the big wheels ...
i in no way claim to be a perfect driver, but i do feel i have a good road sence .

the police recomend that you sit a safe distance behind and flash your headlights to ask them to move over .. in my experience all you get is the some hand jesture

Why do people just sit in the middle when the nearside is empty ?

Because it's easy, just sit there, cruising without a care in the world...
Moving into the nearside lane means you have to check your mirrors after overtaking, watch traffic ahead of you, prepare to overtake which means finding a slot in the middle lane, checking you mirrors, moving your hand to indicate... That's a lot of stuff to do when your hands a busy with a mobile phone

It's about time people realise driving is supposed to be hard work, requiring attention and concentration at all times, it's not like being sat in a sofa watching TV, or is it ???

 

So do I & im the classic middlelane hogger, but im old so i suppose its OK.
Why would you want to keep changing lane when your happy in the middle one. Seeing the distress its giving you lads its unlikely you will reach my age, perhaps you should all relax.
