What car? What management?
Some car s like the small turbo Escort Cossie and the Focus RS really should be run with a DV. Large turbo Cossie and RST's can have them filed in the bin until you fit T4 turbo or exceed 30psi of boost

some one i know said that any turbo car, as long as you have a k&n air filter or something like it and you don't have a dump valve the wastegate will chatter. i just find it hard to belive.
how would you do it on a cossie with standard management

A little bit more to it than that mate. If the car runs an air flow meter like on a S2 RST it will muffle all the sound.
The noise that you hear actually has fook all to do with the wastegate it's the sound of the compressed air having nowhere to go with the throttle shut so it goes backwards through the turbo.

arrr begining to understand. so with something like a cossie it would prittly much be that symple but with something running a metering head because its in the way you wouldn't really hear it.
just been trying to get my head round it for some time

Small turbo Escort Cossie's will do it as well but I think it has an air flow sensor or something that gets upset when the DV is removed as it can't work out which way the air is passing over it. I might be wrong though but sure I've heard it mentioned a few times.

Is it not better known as 'Compresser Stall'? Like what was siaid above, it's when the air is forced the wrong way and momentarily stops the compresser wheel?
Also, i think a more reasonable term to explain a wastegate is that it is there to regulate the boost?
open to correction!

You will here both if the dv can't bypass enough air. As above said, defeats the point of the dv.
@got2bzetec,iirc you'll have a hard time getting your gttdi to stall as they dont have a throttle butterfly to stop the air and push it back over. In high load(full boost)low rpm and lifting of the throttle you may get a small amount of stall as the engine can't physicly swallow the air being forced through the pipes. Its easy to hear with an induction kit.

what it is a twin piston dump valve or blow-off valve.a single piston makes a simple tish and a twin piston makes a chatter, ive had loads of different dump valves and thats what i think it is.
a single is like a bailey dv24 and a twin piston is like the new venturi d/v,a blow-off valve is like a twin but are mostly for japenese cars.i had a HKSssqv and that was mint but now have a venturi by bailey.

boxxer your right only t4s etc. get damaged wih a d/v and t2,t3/t34-35's are easily caplable to live longer because the shafts and turbines are smaller.
