mate of mine and his family went three years ago, and haven't looked back.
Don't be fooled into thinking it's easy or very cheap though, property may be cheap in the right places, but cost of living isn't neccesarily as cheap as may appear.
But, the quality of life is sooo much better, he wouldn't be coming back for anyone.

My dads younger brother owns a stonemasons firm in Oxford (as well as a big house) and he comes back once a month, checks everything, collects his cheque and goes back !!!

His older brother is fully retired, sits on his arse all day (miserable bastard)

He loves it. The way I see it is if you have a house here and enough equity to buy a place in Spain cash, you don't need to earn fortunes to live. The cost of living there is cheaper and there's so much less stress. My brothers other half is Spanish and they are thinking about selling their place in Windsor (worth fortunes) buying a place in Spain cash and then buying a 1 bed place here and get the mortgage on that.

Makes sense.

I now live in Spain, Costa Del Sol area to be more exact. The area you choose to live in can make or break you, so choose very carefully and do plenty of hands on research of the area.

The cost of living is better, cheaper and the quality and freedom of life is fantastic.

However, when you BUY property rather than rent (which can be very cheap) you are subject to far more rules, regs and charges. To own property you must obtain residenca rather than just a standard NIE number to work.

One thing you cannot do very easily, is live in Spain and continue to pay any debts in the UK, if you choose to make the move across the water, make sure you clear any debts etc... first as it can take a while to get settled with work that brings in a regular satisfactory income.

My dad lives in Spain, and I go over a see him quite a lot, but you miss the 'conveniences' of living in England..

He live in a new urbanisation, and there is nothing there, just villas, villas and more villas, you have to go a few miles out for shops, food, anything.

You miss the conveniences of England, shopping complexes, cinemas, clubs, bars, interesting sights and attractions...

My dad moved there 10 years ago to the Costa Del Sol. (5 mins from Fuengirola)
He is now semi retired but works for a uk company that specialises in selling property to the english etc.
If anyone is genuinely interested in buying out there then I can give you his number

Work wise, if you move at the start of the season there are thosands of jobs!
Bar work, restaurant, night club etc etc. Maybe not what you want to do long term, but atleast it gets you an income while getting settled and looking for something else

They did mention about there being a big car crime thing over there not long ago, police are cracking right down on it though.
