Driving along early quite normally, went to put it into fifth, and all i felt was this grind from the gearbox, apparently its the planet gears which have fucked and cracked the casing . I wasnt thrashing it either and there was no grinding or whining noise before hand to give any indication that it was going to blow.

It went bang about 3 and had it out by 6. Now just need to find a new one and rebuild it .

anyone who's anyone knows that parts will break without that extra layer of molecules over it

 

3 hrs aint bad going to get it out! should of got you to do mine

 

Mates just done the same thing to his mk5 golf, already done 2 driveshafts and now the gearbox and it's only done 19K

 

Ballin, it went bang at 3 so really it was about 2 1/2hours getting it out.

Gotta go to fucking wales and get one tonight now .

Just stripped it down and it turns out that one of the bolts that holds the diff in, the head has snapped and gone through the casing. That really shouldnt of happened

Exact same happened in my Mk6, pulling away from a junction not even booting it and bang, felt like I hit a dog or something, blew 3 big holes in the gearbox, drove for like 200 miles before I changed it Diesel box and a new clutch later and it was running mint

 

Theres my diff, obviously a design fault as the head shouldnt shear from the bolt..

 

Mostly likely cause:

You fisted it!!
