i had that powder coat thing done at my local place as he said it was good for high temps on my exhaust manifold, and all it did was burn off slowly. it wont catch alight or anything.

Wednesday 5th April 1.19am

Not much to write tonight as it's way late and I'm shattered.

Quite a bit more in the bay tonight, but somethings haven't gone as planned and it's taking longer than it should which is a worry.

I went a bit mad on some shopping - best part of Ł100 on fluids and cheap running in spark plugs.

The Roose hoses turned up and together with a shiny stainless map sensor bracket have helped tidy up the bay. Got a lot more to do though, but it's all relatively simple bolting up and tightening up.

Rad and fans are in, turbo is on, power steering pump is in, a few hoses are in, some new sensors are connected. More work is needed on the turbo hanger and actuator bracket, plus the turbo water pipes need some TLC with a hammer or similar!

As Stu says, 9 sleeps to go!

Hi Si.

Hopefully nothing too bad will happen when the powder coating gets hot. It could get smoky and smelly though, so I wouldn't fancy it, that's all I'm saying.

Very good effort, and I'm looking forward to seeing it at the 'ring.

Well...!!!
Somerset RSOC monthly meeting tonight, and that pile of parts in the pics so far now look like this.....

But.... it's never that easy is it....

i wasn't really listening to the details, so Si/Phil/Doug will have to fill in the commentary...

how many PF'ers can you spot under there then..

just as well make use of a bit of excess heat.. somebody missed their tea in the rush

SHE RUNS!

Great news and a big relief for me - the pretty much brand new engine started first time, and has clocked up an impressive 45 miles, and one Fast Ford photo shoot.

Not bad considering a few days back all I had was a load of bits all over the house and garage!

It wasn't all plain sailing though

Basically the first problem was the smoke - not out of the exhaust, but off of the exhaust As expected the 'high temp' powder coating was not up to the challenge. It just crackled up, and flaked off Nevermind, was worth a shot.

Second problem, the rubber o-ring on the fuel reg going into the fuel rail decided it didn't want to play ball when I tried to drive off for a test run.

It split, fuel pissed out everywhere and the car stank of the fumes. This was fixed temporaily at the roadside using super glue (good stuff ) and a large rubber donut/ o-ring cut and bodged to suit! Still in there 40 miles later, but soon to be replaced by the right bit.

3rd problem - some of inlet manifold bolts vibrated loose - caused by me not doing them up - whoops. Easy mistake to make after like 2 million nuts and bolts had been done, but meant the car made NO boost, and misfired like a bitch! Easily fixed once we knew what was up.

Now did I do those con rod bolts up more than handtight?

Some pics below of the semi finished article below. Plans for the next few weeks include GT30/35, 1000cc injectors, poss new cams and some nitrous, all aeroquipped, and everything made in stainless steel from 2400 Motorsport (My sponsors pretty much!). For now, Greys and T34 at 28psi

The engine all in and running:

The 2400 Motorsport inlet plenum (in stainless steel so should be up to the boost!) with funky looking throttle bracket.

Plenum again, with their fuel rail cover fitted. Looks mega bling bling and covers the mess of wires and injectors etc etc.

2400 Motorsport turbo hanger - prototype model, but looks more than functional and bling for me

The thermostat - just one of the 40 or so bits I got powder coated - has tidied up the bay no end. Many thanks to AC Powder Coating in Yeovil.

Plans for tomorrow (or rather later today as it's now 12:10am Thursday!) include more running in miles and checking everything is as it should be.

Fingers crossed I may get to the Ring in it! Big big thank you to Phill

Thanks also to my brother (Sketch) and Doug Stirling for their help, and Rich M for his advice ref the block ball bearing!

Beat me to it Rich!

Thanks for the pics - saw someone snapping away but was too busy chasing the air leak squeal to notice who or to pose!

The pics Rich posted show me tightening the inlet manifold back up. The chicken pasty was my grub as the engine was first started just 20 mins before the Somerset RSOC meet and Fast Ford shoot was due to start... nothing like cutting it fine

Cheers

Saturday 8th April 00:40

Thanking u folks

Car is running really nicely at the mo - have now done 120 miles, and plan to 1000 over the next day or two to run it in nicely.

Have been shopping for more goodies - ordered Adjustable top mounts and a compression strut kit to play around with the roll and camber/ caster gubbins

Hoping to get these fitted before the Ring, as long as I can find someone to set it all up for me.

Really starting to look forward to thursday, instead of dreading it

Anyone got some adjustable TCAs they want to sell me?

Turbo's dead

While running in at a heady 10psi the T34 has decided to join in the fun inside the engine rather than stay on the outside of the engine

I've done 750 miles of running in since 11pm last night, had just 250 to go when it all came to a halt...

Update & pics to follow

Sunday 9th April 2006 22:11

Set off last night on a 750 mile running in road trip, got to within 15 miles of home, and noticed a total lack of go - could only make 5psi (had been running 15 psi most of the time). Backed off and saw a load of blue smoke, and thought f@#K it!
Been here before

Limped the car home, smoked out my neighbours, and here is the end product:

Pics:

Took air filter hose off:

Took turbo off and apart:

Engine as it is at this mo:

Big up me little bro SKETCH - lent me his T34.63! Thanks bruv
Like a lamb to the slaughter - the T34 on my bench waiting to go meet it's maker!

Big up to CHIP who has also offered to lend me his newly refurbished T34 as a spare for the Ring trip - PassionFord goodwill coming to the fore as usual

Going to put Danny@RADesigns seals to the ultimate test seeing as he has resealed both of these Turbos!

More pics as the new turbo goes on (tonight!!!)
Anyone got a nice T34 .55 or .63 they want to sell me? Will browse ebay shortly...

Bigger bits are stuck in the intercooler end tank, smaller bits have gone to see what all the fuss is about inside the new block
