Default My Rear Diff shocking to say the least :(

Hi peeps

some of you might know I have been waiting 5/6 weeks now for my rear platted diff to repaird

anyway i'm cutting a long story short i basically had the diff rebuilt about 4 months ago and it wasn't right form day one ....

I told them that this diff isn't right that it's noisy and when cornering the diff makes a serious noisy which i know that it down to the plates as there is too much preload on the plates and it was also virating a little more that before

while i was down at Martins Reyland place i asked him if i could use his torque wrench so i jaked the one side off the car and took the wheel off then put the torque wrech on the hub nut to see how much pressure was on the plates

and I found out that the plates broke off/free about 110 ft lbs of torque which is seriously no good for road use that it pure 100% track settings

anyway a few weeks the diff lets go on the M6 after showing sticky Paul and his freinds the way home to liverpool ( after Auto sports show nec) been waiting ever since

I finally collected the diff today and i tyred to fit it as i was lifting the diff up to rest it on the rear anti roll bar there was oil driping on my shrit , so i then quickly took it down and placed it on the floor and checked the diff over

there was no fooking front diff seal or cover and not only that the front bolt was lose

heres a few pics this is what i mean

The front bolt was lose so i took it off and there you have it no fooking diff seal or seal cover

now this is what you pay people to do and thats how you get it back

I wanted the car back on the road for this sunday as Mallory Park is on the first venue of the yr for the Ford Salloon championships

this is why i get so worked up because wankers can't do the job right first time

it's not the cars it's the wankers that do shite work that fucks the cars up

it's going back to him tomorrow though his fooking front window

i'm totally piss off i would have had the diff in tonight aswell i'll probally have to wait another 6 weeks

i can see why alot of people do D.I.Y because a lot of wankers don't do it right ,

who did this for you marco?

local place?

its piss poor workmanship that lets 99% of places down IMO..

its not their car/diff etc so they are not interested in doing this properly...

Wow..... That's really shoddy workmanship, very very poor.

I'm guessing that the place you took it too understands how a diff works, and especially a Limited Slip Diff.....Coz it don't look like it

A good amateur mechanic should have been able to strip and and rebuild it in a couple of hours.

I know how you feel, but for the sake of time.... It might be just worth you getting a seal, checking the torque settings of the diff, and putting it back in yourself....Otherwise I'm sure they'll have it for another week, and at the end of the day, what will the workmanship be like !!!!

This should definately be a Name And Shame !!!!

Hi peeps

This is the truth I gave to diff back to Tom @ Gripper who then sends the diffs to Coventry Automotive

Tom only assembles the actual lsds units he doesn't build the diffs

Tom recons that they had build loads of cossie diffs and normaly pretty good which is probally fair enough

lets face it they all make mistakes

i'm going to take the diff back this morning and see what he says i don't think they will do it straight away put i'll ask

if they have a diff seal i stock i'll just fit the myself

thats the point i'm fed up of sorting this out 3 times this diff has been built in the last 12 months and do you know what there was nothing wrong with the diff in the first place

i had the engine/gearbox rebuilt ,so i thought i would have the diff check over and all that was wrong with it 1 x bevel plate had broken thats it

and you would even know it was broken all you would lose is a bit of torque on the plates thats it i wouldn't have affected the diff in anyway except for that

all i wanted was the car to last a season without any fook ups thats why i had everything done

Hi Mate

To be honest i know Markk can build them and i have asked him prior to this

Dome motorsport can rebuild them(bromsgrove) Tal (Cannock)/Sean @ bara motorsport(bromsgrove) /Tony @ tr transsinons (dudley)/ central axels (birmingham)

there quite a few but if you have got a gripper and you need plates Tom is the only person i know who suppies the plates because it's his unit

Tom @ Gripper only builds the actual LSD units he sets all the plates up inside

he then sub lets the build to Cov automotive

Don't just fit a seal mate. You also need to check that the pinion nut is correctly tightened and peened.

this is very bad news pal , looks like theyve left it loose knowing there wasnt a pinion seal in it, and just forgotten and given it you back, no excuse tho really , i mean six weeks is very poor.

i hope you get a deal on the cost of this pal, i for one would give you your money back if i had given it you back like that.
i know toms stuff is very good, but like you say its obv coventry transm thats the prob here.

id take the back cover off and check the cwp mesh to be sure now, its not like its a 2min job if its not right, and could be quite expensive.

good luck marco, sounds like you need it pal.

Hi Bernie

I have since spoke to Tom about the diff

and he said that Cov Automotive never had none left in stock so he told me i would have to get one from fords

he said that the rest of the diff is fine and that all it needs is the front seal

I have just orderd a sela from Fords this morning

I'm of to Martins now to check the pressure on the plates to see if he has set them at a lower pressure

because when i asked him what have you sets the plates to he said " oh a lot less than is was before and he couldn't tell me what torque he set them at , so i'm not convinced that he has even reset the plates or not
