Default electrical wiring problem.

i was just sorting the last few things out on my car before booking it in for an mot. and now it looks like ive got a bit more work 2 do.

if i turn anything elecrical on the rear wiper goes.
i mean turn the heater blowers on, head lights, hazrads, either indicator, full beam. they all make the rear wiper go.
the only things that dont is the front wipers and the side lights.

the correct switch that is ment for the rear wiper also turns it on and off as i should.
i checked the switched side of that switch with the other stuff turned on and there was nothing on it so it dosnt look like its being back fed through the cable.

any ideas what could be causing this?

Is this on your nova mate ?

Bad earth possibly,

Check the earth for the car wiring loom which is located on the inner wing near the header tank.

Quite possible that is the problem tbh

I usually just let it idle with ther header tank cap off, seems to do the job well enough.

Engine earth is either a strap from the gearbox end casing to the inner wing and a strap from earth on the battery to the firewall or on later models the earth strap from the battery runs to the back of the block

sorry mate, just realised what i typed.
i used the quite large brown cable near the coil as the earth for the engine loom. i havnt actually tried starting the engine since disconecting the brown so dont know that it wont start.

should i just run a cable from the earth (brown) from the ecu loom to the body of the car?

earth near coil is correct for normal nova loom.

ecu loom earths on inlet manifold etc..

The engine is earthed either from the inner wing to gearbox or from battery to rear of the block

the nova loom is now earthed to the body,
the gearbox is earthed to the body
all the 3 earths are on the inlet manifold.

only thing that im a bit confused with is the black multi plug on the xe engine loom. it has various cables in it. including a thick black/red cable for the startor motor, a black switched live for the ecu, the reverse switch, and most of the oil pressure wires and things. it also has a thick brown cable. i thought this was ment to be connected to the thick brown cable on the nova loom. i forgot that that was an earth that was ment to go on the body as the car has been in bits for so long.

what should i connect that thick brown cable from the xe engine loom to?
