Had one of these a few years ago
Mine was a uk 5 speed manual twin turbo with leather
They are just under 300hp but to be honest due to the weight of them they really arn't particulaly exhilarating to drive! I found it a nice cruiser but a little too quite inside and a bit more like driving a Lexus than a sporty car.
The only real problem i had with mine was when one day it just died and it turned out to be the 'Trignition pack' that had gone tits up and this cost me 500 quid This according to 'specialists' is a common fault on them.
Overall i would say yes they look nice although a bit dated but for 2.5k you are getting a lot of car for the money but don't expect neck snapping performance as you will be disapointed.

my mates had about 7 of them lol

very good car for the money

his one is a uk manual and i loved it, i f i drove one of them before i bought a cosy id be a jap boy now

if its manual and a little bosst upgrade and filter exhaust expect a lot of sideways

common things is headgaskets and turbos

as long as its been looked after you should be ok

but itf any go its easier to pull engine out than do it in situ i think u have to take engine out anyhow to change one of the turbos

but overall very good cars

I had one an import manual TT a few years back. Had it for about 6 months, used to large it everywhere in it (I was young ). Never gave me no grief whatsoever. Put the suede interior in it as the tweed stuf is rank! Had loads of other goodies on there etc.... Pretty quick but remember its a huuuuge car!

Heres my old one!

Cheers for the info guys, I had a look around and they are surprisingly cheap. Cheaper than what i can get this one for.

Maybe i got a little excited when i turned it over and gave it a bit of throttle. Sounded lovely, but to be honest, going by what i've heard here and elsewhere, i'll be giving this one a miss.

Astra is priority at the momment anyway, and the £15k i recently got will help her back on the road and leave me plenty left to get a sencible everyday runaround.

Thanks a lot for the replies Much appreciated.

Expect some big numbers when it comes to cam-belt replacement or turbo's though.

Both of these jobs command around 18-20 hours labour each with most garages.

Very heavy cars mate, used to be the fastest production car to 60mh at one point, about 5.4secs I think, but that was many years ago!

Not bad for 2.5k, but be careful!

your way off with the cambelt pal, there a piece of piss, 3 hours max turbos are a bit more of a challenge tho, the labour is the killer in this instance , as said above its easier to remove the engine, labout time of R+I 24 hours. so if your gonna invest in such large labour expense, be prepared to spend cash on other items whilst its our, i.e clutch, headgaskets, both turbos saves in the long run.

nice car tho on the whole.

See, i'm one for simplicity, hence sticking with vauxhalla as i'm used to working on their engines. If i took the 300 on it would be like i'm a begginer with only amateur knowledge when i wokred on it.

I'd rather stick with the astra now lol I've come too far to stop or go back.

I did consider buying one until my motor came along. Biggest issue would have been insuring it plus the maintenance on it would have been a bit OTT as described. Glad I went with the Onion in the end
