impact air gun wont really matter

but a bolt through the block where gearbox bolts up and a bar across that bolt onto ring-gear will help

lock the fly wheel up, big solid bar (not ratchet) and a hammer.

bit of heat will work wonders as well
best with 2 or 3 of ya. 1 to hold the engine and one to do the bar.

if the hammer dont work then stick something like a scaffold pole over the bar and try that.
if u have a spare person get them too keep an eye on the socket on the bolt. u dont want it to slip and damage the bolt or u will be really stuck.
so if they shout its slipping the stop asap.

it WILL come so keep trying. my mate got annoyed coz he couldnt do it. he went to the hassle of getting a van and getting the engine to my house. all i did was locked the fly wheel, heated it up and used a long bar to get it off.

good luck

Be careful iif you arent stripping the engine, too much heat may damage the crank oil seal

u can used a bit of rope round the pully, lock it up onto its self and tie it to a bracket on the block. like the alternator. when u try it u will understand what i mean

Use some long bolts in the flywheel bolt holes and a bar

Remember M8,
Once you have the bolt out if the pully is stuck (which 99% are) DO NOT hit it with a hammer. It will most likely break.

Get yourself a 3 legged puller like below and remove it that way

if u do need to use the puller amek sure you leave the bolt in a so you dont damage the thread in the crank.

you dont wanna go through all that hassle to sod something up on the easy bit

fudgeass is coming round with his tool tomorrow
but i cant see it happening really.

i assume its just the head of the bolt that is siezed on there?
as the rest of it would of been pretty shelded from the elements.

An air gun will get it off presto. Did mine while the head was off and the pistons didn't even move while the air gun was working its magic

Soak it in WD40 or whatever your preferred lubricant happens to be. Loctite do a nice freeze spray which is also rust penetrating, I think you can get it from Halfords.

Good luck.

What i found on mine when i removed it (by 1/2" drive air gun) was something like loctite now i dont know if its the norm to fit these bolts with a little on the thread but i certainly never have done on any of the belts ive changed. That could be the problem if it aint moving

Rather than an air gun, I used a mains powered impact wrench I hired from a HSS shop, Ł30 all in I think, including the 110V transformer.
Not cheap for a few seconds' use, but made the job sooooooo easy

PS: Read here https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...617805#2617805 for information on pulley removal, three legged pulleys work, but can snap the pulley, there's a link on there to a machinemart tool which is more reliable.

Just lock the crank by any of the methods above and put a few feet of leverage on it.

You just arent being brutal enough with it, its not something that needs treating delicately.

Swiss Tony says:
Removing your crank bolt is very much like making love to a beautiful women.
You need to make sure its well and truely locked in place and cant move, then you need to be as brutal as possible to it with the largest tool you have available and as many of your mates as possible to help you.
