i had a similar fault on my 4x4 cossie this week-changed evrything including, inlet gasket, leads, plugs, cap and rotor arm, coolant temp sensor, coil, checked crank sensor wiring.
and all it was in the end was one of the multi plugs along the bulkhead-cleaned it out and it ran sweet.

the fault with that was it would sometimes start fine, and when you went to rev it,it was holding back.then it would take ages to start then run rough.
then sometimes not start, but had fuel and good spark-

just check all the multiplugs for cleanliness.

hope this helps

new cap and rotor too, maybe feckered, will change these again tonight along with phase sensor.

new plugs of the type recommended by engine builder and gapped accordingly as well.

keep the ideas coming though guys as I'm desperate, leaving for an event tommorrow lunchtime and closest place to get these types of parts of the shelf is 100 miles from me.

Could be the TPS (throttle position sensor) as it seems to be throttle related?
Is the loom you fitted off or for a 4wd as opposed to 2wd?

The colour of the tps means nothing really mate as there are red pf01's (2wd) and pf09's (4wd) in fact most 4wd tps's are black from what i have seen. You will need to have the pf09 to work with your loom and ecu if you havn't already!

James,

Simple test of the phase sensor....get the car running then disconnect the phase sensor at the dizzy and try the car...it wont start with the sensor disconnected but it will run once its fired up....if she runs ok then bingo..change the phase sensor..after that check the other obvious choices, fuel presure especially if the pump have a strainer on the inlet side...

I have had a similar prob as you describe and it was the phase sensor.....cant believe you aint gone dizzyless yet...

Sorry to hear of the troubles pal hope u sort it....

Regards

Ian

Sibster, getting another phase sensor later tonight, car won't start at all now. If it'd run long enough I will go dizzyless

Spadge, it is a pf09, just had a look, biggest pain is the car was running fine when it was parked up at the end of the season, with all these exisitng sensors, amps etc etc fitted, only changed items as described before, same ecu etc etc

cheers guys

OK 2 phase sensors later it is running no probs in the garage, cannot get it out to test under load though as there's snow drifted halfway up the garage door

Original phase sensor wires were very brittle and insulation had broken down so I am hoping this is the problem, 2nd one we tried wasn't a known quantity so discounting that.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, once I get it tested under load/boost conditions I'll let you all know the crack
