Default 3dr Cos suspension check out the rubbing on my arch, pics

Used 235/40/17 on the rear of my 3dr at Brands yesterday, its made a bit of a mess of the shit catcher only did it when going through paddock hill.

Its got rear bilsteins & standard ride height 30 % uprated springs on the back & coilovers on the front, don't want to muck about with it too much now as it handles well like this. Going to put some heavier poundage springs on the rear , is this the answer ?

No damage to the tyre

Had a top day, anyone thinking of using Toyo R888 trackday tyres i found them really good, so much grip its untrue

Warlydaddy, In my expirience those Toyotires are closer to slicks than roadtires grip-wise, you might want to uprate you springs..
Here is an example of how my car behaved on those tires with standard suspension:

Don't know much about the differences in the rear susp of a cossie and an Merkur XR4ti, but I run 245/45/16's on all four corners of my XR. I have front coilovers and 300# springs, and "sport" springs in the back that are -25mm below stock ride height... if that helps? I had to roll the fenders and do some minor "adjusting" to some of the inner fender well with a hammer, but it looks fine and once painted is unnoticable.

As for the scrubbing on the above pics, maybe use a spacer and roll the fenders?

HI mate

you might need to space the wheel out a couple of mm if it's rubbing on the inside

Wheel spacers seem a bit dodgy to me, does it not put more strain on the wheels bearings & you have less thread to bolt the wheels on. I have a pair of 5mm spacers from rally design, universal type ones but have never used them because i thought it would be a bit dangerours, keep thinking the wheel will fly off

So if i have ET40 wheels & i use my 5mm spacers it then becomes ET35 ?

Does it matter that their will be 5mm less on the wheel studs to put the wheels bolts onto ?

longer wheel studs may be needed, i.e 5mm longer than standard items.

Just another thought! If you use the spacers you may have to trim your arches as the problem may then occur on the outside!

OK thanks for the advise but it only rubbed on the inside when at the bottom of Paddock hill bend, i'm going to try stiffer springs 1st as i don't like the idea of spacers.

Thanks Simon.

Spadge, exactly what i was thinking, it will deffo hit the outer lip with a spacer on. I'll sort some springs & then see what happens next time i'm at brands. I don't think i would get this problem at other tracks as the dip you go down at brands is very steep & the suspension compresses to the max in the bottom of the dip.

Thanks Simon.

Maxest yes they are a 330mm compbrake set up, quite pleased with them but i still had slight brake probs with the pedal going spongy sometimes, i had to pump the pedal sometimes after giving them a hammering. Not sure whether its fluid or brake pad related though, prob pads, i was staying out for 20 laps or so at a time though.

Marco, yes i have the universal ones & the quality looks crap , i will not be using them.
