Default Dynopack V's Rolling road-which is better

Today i have been to the Jap car show at Billing and there was a Dynopack running giving out BHP figures.

Basically you unbolt your wheels and bolt on a special set of hub fittings, they go into the Dynopack and the car is run up giving a BHP figure AT THE WHEELS.
The machine is totally Digital and i think rolling roads are anologue so i would of thought these would be better

Take a look at the web site and click on Dynopack

Tiff - Dynapacks are good mate...better than rolling road any day of the week. Get organising the shootout...wait for about 6 months for me to finish my car first.

My old college has one, they called it a chassis dyno thou

Anyway I love it, had my XR3i on it and the damn thing is so sensitive you can see the 3bhp drop from the alternator when you turn the lights on!

I'm trying to get the college to take one to the Fordsport national day along with their Formula Ford car. if they do!

Tiff,

Maybe we start a new thread "PassionFord DynoPack Shootout", try to fix a date and get a good deal for power runs......Could be worth getting on of the magazines involved too

ANY disadvantages to using a DynaPack???????? I mean, there must be one or two drawbacks?

At the hubs is not the same reading as at the wheels BTW, its higher.

But at least its accurate, not like flywheel figures everyone quotes, thas a fucking joke, total guesswork.

Doug

I will pop in to see them at Thor Racing next week and get some sort of prices and dates, then i will go from there

They are apperently 100% accurate as they are digital and set to british DIN standards

BUT is there any drawbacks from them................not heard none yet?

I dont know of any drawbacks, as long as they done in a proper dyno room with the right cooling (ie at Thors or Abbey).

Suprised theres not been a ford RR day at G-Force, thats where most the other car marques use.

Just got this from Thors web-site

"Twin air fans each blow 20m3s-1 of air towards the front of the car to provide engine cooling."

Is that good or not??????????????????????????????

G-Force also has the added bonus of calulating 4WD transmission losses at 27%, which IMO is a fookin joke, but gives a nice high flywheel figure, lol

What do most rollers calculate cossie 4wd tranny losses as?

From what i understand, Thors cooling is spot on, a good place.

Abbeys is even better, its like a cold store in there dynapack room, everyone wearing arctic coats so they dont freeze to death, lol.

about 5-10mins from jnc 6 of the m25, not an easy place to find really as they only have a 8"x 3" sign saying gtr on it and that is it lol.
Looked like some old farm buildings last time I went there which was a good 2-3 yrs ago when my mate had a pulsar.
Loads of smashed up skylines aswell.

Steve: I've also heard the 27% figure being used. However there is not an absolute formula for calculating @fly figures because of the variables associated with transmition loss.

Quoting fly figures based on % of @wheels can therefore only result in spurious figures.

Is there therefore any point quoting flywheel figures where there is no evidence of the engine having been on a dyno.
