Default new fiesta st help..

hi all, a guy i work with has a new fiesta st there 150 bhp, he tells me that the engine is the same one as thay put in the st 170 focus ? but detuned is that correct? he says hes been to a few places about chipping it and getting it up to 170 bhp but thay have said it cant be done , i think it can and will give him stus number at m.s.d.
anybody now abit more about this engine im i right in saying its a duratec?

they are not de-tuned st170 engines,

st170 = 2.0 zetec

fiesta st = 2.0 duratec

There's plenty of tuning bits coming out for the Fiesta ST in the VERY near future, some potentially very impressive kit.

Keep your eyes peeled on Performance Ford for all the latest info and product tests.

RS and Focus ST170 both have Duratec on their engines. I'm 99% sure that the Fiesta ST and Focus ST170 are separate engines but both Duratec

If it cant be chipped then that would be because Ford in thier wisdom have decided to put a new design of ecu in instead of the black oak ecu that is used in the *old st170* which can be blue finned.

The ST170 has what's badged as a Duratec on it but it's almost 100% identical to a 2.0 Zetec, cast iron block, alloy head etc. The 170 also uses a Black Oak ECU.

The Fiesta ST has a 'true' 2.0 all alloy Duratec in it. The Fiesta uses a Silveroak ECU and yes it is chippable with pretty decent gains

All alloy 2litre Duratecs, the REAL ones (ie not FRS/ST170s as they just rebadged Zetecs) like in the ST150, are superb engines with mad potential.
They have a 2.3 version too.

They the engines that are in lots of modern Mazdas too.

The Mazda MPS already uses the 2.3litre version of the Duratec with turbo and 4wd.
Dont take a genius to work out what engine and drivetrain will be used in any future 4wd turbo ford...

Volvo engineers have said that the Rs was shelved because they did not have a suitable 4x4 drivetrain to handle the 360 bhp on the high pressure turbo version

Dont think Simon's ST170 Turbo has the VVTi or the dual stage inlet that you have on std ST170's. I think both these had to be removed for the Turbo conversion. Im sure Simon will correct me if im wrong
