A lad I went to school with does this.
He "reckons" he does really well out of it and talks of milking people from expensive areas and earning 40k a year.
He's been doing it for about 10 months
I dont see this myself as he doesn't apear to be that flash- but yes apearences can be deseptive.
Talks of doing a couple of scratches etc for 80-150 quid a day.
Apparently if he does a scratch and it looks crap the "unique" stuff they use can just be removed so the customer isn't left with a bollocks finish to an otherwise not to unsightly scratch.
The biggest concern I have though is that Chips away dont have any rules about who and where you start up... SO.... there is also another bloke who lives just round the corner who has started up too and now they "fight" for the same people.
22k seemed like a shit lot of money to me too...
Subway as a franchise operation have much better idea's and rules.. but then they're also a bit more expensive.
Doubt this helps... best thing to do.. but of a google search, talk to an employee and get some info of the company themselves.

Aye, turning over 40k and earning 40k are two seperate things
TBH 80-150 quid in a day turnover is a little poor IMO even profit really
I can easily EARN (And have done) Ł2-300 net profit in a day... thats going some and grafting, if all that days jobs are in the same place and come together nicely etc etc... I have turned over up to Ł700 in a day and close to 2k in a week!! (on very good profit margins )
It CAN be done but they aren't everyweek lol
The key is consitancy Some days/weeks are good, very good, some days/weeks are poor very poor (cant do alot in driving rain ROFL) I have been doing this for about 6 years, which is longer than most others these days. If the work was about still, I could easily be earning 30-40k profit, but sadly everyone is/has jumped on the bandwagon so to speak, as a result there is less to earn
BTW the stuff they use to remove their "unique" paint is standard thinners and if he can remove any paintwork he wasnt happy with back to just the original scratch that would suggest two things;
a) He isnt doing ANY prep work prior to applying paint
and
b)He obviously isnt that confident in his skills if the key selling point is the ability to remove "shit" work
Shings is right though Chipsaway do just "sell" franchises and dont care where they put them....
I really could do with finding someone local to me who is thinking of buying a new Chipsaway Franchise for 22k.... !!!!

Alright Damo, sorry to hear that the market has been flooded. ERAC don't use mobile repair companies anymore, just send everything to A.Pile which takes weeks to fix!
Any idea what you might do if you do sell the business?

Some branches still use SMART repairers
I do all your alloys at A Pile LOL ... I'm in there sometimes 2 or 3 times a week, funnily enough Vehicle Repair did ask Andrew about getting "his repairer" to visit the branches, but he wasnt too keen on giving your HO my details... (he earns a score P/alloy, but I didn't tell you that right ) If they would answer their phones I would speak to them myself LOL
Is it still Richard Boyle?
